Roof Vent Covers

Post by Joy & Alan on 8/1/2010, 12:49 pm

I am looking into adding roof vent covers onto the two roof vents on our 2010 31TS. I've seen many units that have these installed, but it looks like the position of our vents will cause the total height of the camper to be more than the 12'4" with the vent covers installed. Will appreciate any comments on DIY add-ons of roof vents and plus or minus experiences. Thanks.

I have them on mine and are very happy with them. I don't think they are any higher than the AC unit. The good part is you can open the vents a few inches when its raining and no water comes in. My vents are always open when the camper sits in the driveway, summer or winter, doesn't matter, their open.

I'd go for them.....

We have Maxair vents on two of our vents. We too leave the vent open all the time. Even when driving, I leave it open. No rain or debris gets in. Our A/C unit is taller than the vents.

Can't go wrong with the MaxxAir vents.

Also, the MaxxFan Deluxe will help maintain close to original top profile.

you'll be glad you've got them when you get caught in a hail storm.

It took a hail storm for me to realize I needed them. the covers that come on it from the factory are no match for big chunks of ice.
Shoot through them like a piece of paper.

Ok I can see another mod in the near future. With any luck I can get them installed before leaving for Oregon the last part of September.

Thanks for the comments. I'm installing MaxxAir vents in the next two weeks. Watched the install video and it appears fairly easy. Now have to decide which version to go with.

When you install them, be sure to use nuts and bolts(little ones of course). Mine were installed by the dealer when I bought the camper and they ran the brackets in with sheet metal screws. From all the bouncing around, some of the screws fell out.

So, I had to replace them with nuts and bolts and little tiny lock washers.

Ours were lower than the a/c unit also. Is there a problem with being more than 12'4"?

No big problem as long as the overhead obstacles are over the height. :-)) Planning to go with the MaxxAir Vents II as they tilt. Was wondering if the total hieght is higher from installing the vents. Sounds like the way to go...so in a few weeks we will install them.

They shouldn't be any higher than your air conditioner cover.
We had a satellite dish installed when we bought the cat and that did raise our hight, but the roof vents did not.

I'm almost positive our vent cover over the bedroom vent is the highest point on our trailer.

We have a low telephone wire at the end of our driveway. I never use to hit it until I installed the vent covers. The bedroom vent cover hits everytime now.
