Tires and Heat

Tires and Heat
I'm headed to the beach this weekend, But I swear I'm almost afraid to pull the camper down these HOT blacktop roads. Truck temp matched the bank temp sign at 105* at noon today. Its supposed to be even hotter this weekend. They've even gone past heat advisories to plain out Heat WARNINGS.
Did I move to Death Valley and didn't know it ?

Re: Tires and Heat
Something crazy going on with the weather in the east. We just came through one of the coldest winters in decades and are now suffering through one of the hottest summers on record.
I'm heading to the mountains this weekend to escape the heat if only for two days. Sounds like your jumping out of the frying pan directly into the fire!
Have fun and only keep your head above water!

Re: Tires and Heat
The temps are actually cooler at the beach. And Yea, I'm expecting to stay in the water for a couple days for a good salt soaking. I think I need one, may even have some salt on a glass rim.

A friend who is interested in metrology says that the culprit is the El Nino effect. He says we can expect a colder, wetter/snowier winter than last year.

There's a spot in the Big Horn Mountains near Buffalo, WY where the water's cool and the sky is clear and weather, politics and war don't seem to matter. And oh yes, the beer is cold and the white flakes you see are salt on the rim of a margarita glass. Want to join me?

We sure did oldelmer. We stayed in one of our state parks near Beckley, WV.
When we arrived at the campground Friday evening it was a cool 75. Saturday was overcast all day with a high of 72. Sunday was sunny and 75 when we left the campground at 2:00 PM. It was 89 when we arrived home!
We had a campfire both nights with the wives wearing hooded sweatshirts. Inside the Cat both mornings was low 60's with the exhaust fan and a couple windows open. The campground is on top of the mountain right in the middle of the woods. I'll post a pic later.

How about Orick Calif. I keep telling you Oldelmer1, to come out west. A high in the 60's is great. 182 miles from home.

oldelmer - Amazing what a a little elevation and a canopy of trees will do. Low to mid 70's here both days with low 60's at night. 12 to 15 degrees cooler than home just a couple hours away.
Here's a few pics of our campsite - (Cell phone is all we had)
Looking out our back window

The Cat

Our friends with the "Silver Semi". A behemoth 40 footer. Should have seen him weaving this thing through the trees!

Thanks MountainMan, looks nice.
We were at Stonewall Jackson State Park back in May, really nice place too.
MAXTOR, THATS MY KIND OF WEATHER!!!! Unfortunately, I'd be coming out by myself if I left now. Of course, that could be GOOD!

Re: Tires and Heat
It's been cooler here. Highs in the low 90's, and the overnight lows have been in the mid 50s. We've only used the A/C a handful of times. After 7, we can open up the house and it's comfortable. Usually the temps are hovering around 100 and doesn't get below the mid-high 60s overnight (AKA Hot August Nights - like the car show in Reno)

Isn't Hot August Nights this week? I like the cars, and all the activities. The town triples in population during the show.

Yeah, I've been seeing a lot of classic both driven and trailered in. I stay away from Reno on a normal weekend. There's just too many people to deal with up there.

Stonewall is a beautiful and well run place but not where I want to camp in the hot summer.
I've not been there in years but we've spent several weekends there when we had our boat and truck camper. Beautiful lake and grounds but man does it get hot and stay hot there. Only about 1000' above sea level if I remember correctly. Didn't help that our old truck camper did not have A/C.
Hopefully the trees have matured a little over the years and now provide a little shade in the campground.

Re: Tires and Heat
It is a beautiful place. But no, the trees are not mature enough yet.
