Low E window installation

Post by Maxtor on 7/15/2010, 6:50 am

I finally gave in to the wife and had a company install new low E windows to our house. We purchased our house new in 1974 and back then, all the windows were single pane. At $500 per window, I figure I will need to live to a ripe old age of 168 for the electricity savings to break even with the window costs. affraid

I have the same windows with argon gas. The big saving is in tankless gas hot water 50% for the last two years on gas. I installed a new central A/C 18.5 and my electric bill drop $25.00 each month so far for the last year.

I have 38 windows in my house. It cost $9600 for all of them (less labor). They are all low-E Argon filled. They weren't replacements, but the ones I installed during construction. My energy bills are the same as my prior house that was 42% of the size of my current home. Better insulation, windows, appliances, etc. do help.

My water bill is 6x higher than the prior house. Doesn't help that I live in the desert and try to have lawn.

I have older double pained windows and a couple are cracked, but turning the A/C down to 85 during the day and my wife turns it back down to 78 at night, it dropped my elec bill by $150 bucks

Those types of savings are why I have had an automatic set back thermostat in my homes since the early 80s. They are avaliable for $40 (maybe even less) and are easy to install. Even some of the lower priced models will allow weekday and weekend schedules.

I bought one. about 70 bucks ,,,,,

Melted it on the glass stove top while I was reading the instructions.

So I had to revert back to my other auto stat. Me getting up in the morning and turning up to 85*
