First trip!

Post by dragynj on 7/13/2010, 6:15 pm

As bad as this sounds I am packing up for our first trip of the season!!!

Since the move to WA my wife works in Seattle during the week and only comes home on the weekends (this is temporary thank God!). We've been in Richland since March (brought the 5er to Richland from ND in April, see video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5DS1KhFldU ) and through all of that the stars have alligned for our maiden voyage in the new state. Almost feels like our first trip again! Our little kids are excited (5 and 3) but our 13yo isn't too pumped up . Can't wait to get the campfire smell back in my hoodie and make some breakfast over an open flame!!!!!!

Wish more of you were on the west coast, could use some campin' buddies!! I've been living through a lot of your stories these past 4 months, thanks for getting me through!

Better late than never. I'll bet WA has MANY great camping spots.

Maybe you should put a wii in you Cat so your 13 y.o. has a reason to go camping.

When we took the boys on long trips, we used to put a battery and inverter in so they could take their X-Box stuff along. That's the ONLY way they survived our camping trips. And, the ONLY way we survived the whining.

Not me I made our kids suffer. They had to go fishing ,hiking, catching crawfish, and the dreaded toasting marshmallows.....Those poor things.

Talk tough all you want, but just remember... your kids are the ones who most likely will pick out your nursing home some day. And...they have a loooong memory!!

hahahahahaha! Great back and forth there! Thought about dragging the wii into the camper, but that's just one more thing I have to unpack! Got a bunch of DVD's and DirecTV so she will be fine. Actually hoping I can't get the DirecTV tuned in (might not try to hard) so I can force her outside a little!

A little more packing and we're on the road around noon! Can't wait!! Thanks for the conversation!!

Uh oH, I'm the one that put the Xbox in the camper in the first place for me. My wife and little girl always crash really early so I'm wide awake playing xbox or watching a movie on the xbox. It makes a great dvd player instead of roasting the concertone.

First trip will have to wait. . . . The three campgrounds I tried that are close were booked tight for the last 2 weeks, so I thought I'd try a "first come first serve" angle. That bombed big time. After 2.5hrs of roundtrip driving we're right back where we started, with a full camper to empty out. . . . . Promised the kids that we'd sleep in there tonight anyway, but VERY bummed out. . .

Tried to stay relatively close to home. Fishook, Charboneau and Hood. The all dot the eastern sided of the Snake river. Found one today though! Plymouth Park on the WA/OR border. Looks like a nice little park should be a good time! Pulled the camper down this AM, just waiting for wifey to fly in from Seattle and 40mins later we're camping!!!

Any other recommendations maxum? I'm taking suggestions. PRetty new here and would like to find a couple more "go to's".

Thanks!

We stick to the State Parks. Being from B.C. we visit the parks along the I5 all the way through the state. Every year we go to Birch Bay (many times), Bayview, Deception Pass, Rasar, Larrabee, Grayland (for 10 days), and this past Spring stayed one night at Millersylvania on the way home from Disneyland. We have done all the above parks many times but they are all too far for you for quick trips. Soon we are going to start exploring the center part of the State which will be a little closer to you. On my hitlist is Lake Wenatchee, Lake Chelan, Lincoln Rock and Steamboat Rock. Those will have to wait till next year though. One place that is not a State Park that is just north of you that I would like to investigate is the Moses Lake area. I hear there are places that you can boondock and ride off road vehicles from that location. That kind of activity interests my son and I so I'm sure we will be visiting there some day soon.
