RV accident

Post by Carpe Diem on 7/8/2010, 3:31 pm

This RV collided with a vehicle in tow was rear ended today near sioux falls by a semi driver asleep at the wheel. The 74 year old occupants were lifted to my hospital with stable but serious injuries. Looking at the RV it is amazing either occupant lived. Click on the links video

I used to drive long haul,,,,, I really can't believe theres not more crashes than they are. You'd be surprised at just how many of those guys are sleep deprived and driving with one eye open.

I've gone what felt like miles with my eyes closed. Probably wasn't but a few feet, but I'd open my eyes and bout have a heart attack........ between 5 and 6 am were the worst for me.
Short haul drivers that cover the same route 10 or 20 times a day are probably even more endanger of falling asleep by getting bored of the same scene.

We saw an overturned 5th wheel on our last trip out west. Stuff was scattered all over. We hoped and prayed that the occupants of the tow vehicle were okay.

Years ago an 18 wheeler that was coming our way swerved to the right (glad it wasn't to the left on our two-lane road). It went up a slope and came back down.... still on all it's wheels. We figured the driver fell asleep.

We were traveling west on I-90 approaching Brutte, MT on Monday, July 5 and saw another motor home or travel trailer(it was hard to determine) rolled over and flatened on east bound I-90. We're not sure what happened but there must of been 6 or 7 police cars there and severl EMS.

My job requires me to travel alot. I see a lot of FW TT out there you wonder sometimes who is really paying attention. Was workin out of state this week on the drive home saw a couple of truckers weaving. Saw one person with a TT him and his wife were not paying attention ran off the road, but recovered safely. Make me wonder

We JUST avoided a TT/Semi accident on I-65 coming home. We had friends who drove past it and reported that the TT was flattened!! Don't know if there were fatalities or not.

That was the second accident along that stretch of road in as many days.

We must be in the triangle this summer as accidents have been numerous. This weekend another semi driver fell asleep at the wheel and rolled his rig on I-29 going through town. He walked away with bumps and bruises thankfully. His cargo was frozen fish scattered everywhere......ewww. On sunday a boat came un-hooked and killed an on coming driver.....sad!!
