a/c quit blowing cold
a/c quit blowing cold air today. It's 98 outside in Gettysburg,Pa and 86 inside 5ver. Took a nap and woke up to an amonia smell. Called the dealer in N.C. and the extended waranty place and they gave me local service numbers but nobody can help me till tomorrow. It is suppose to rain later so hopefully it will cool down outside. It's going to be a hot night in trailer for us and the pups.

See if you can rent a small window unit (110 volt) from a local rental place. Sit it in the door...might look funny but at least you will be cool. I did this once at home...saved the day!!

I too have heard that A/C units can only reduce temperatures by 20 degrees. In hot weather it helps to keep your day/night shades down. On our trip to the Southwest a few years back I had to put Reflectix in the windows that received the most sunlight. It helped the cooling a lot.
I'm no expert, but I believe that A/C units use either freon or refrigerant 410. If you smelled ammonia that might indicate a problem with your refrigerator.

I've heard the 20 degree thing also, just don't buy it. Yes, the cat was baking in the sun.

I wonder if it would help if you opened the outlet on the air conditioner so the air is directed straight out instead of through the ducts in the hot roof? At least it might be cooler right below the unit.

I have the 15000 A/C in my WC, had problems in Palm Springs once, 114 outside, would only bring it down to 85 inside even with reflective stuff in windows. Found a wet washrag in front of fan made a big difference. Glad to get out of there!

Re: a/c quit blowing cold
Here is a thought! The intake on the A/C is inside the camper not outside so your not pulling in 100% outside air. The air recircs from inside through the coils and back into the camper. If your not getting cold air coming out of the A/C something is wrong with the unit. If it gets low on freon it may freeze up restricting your cool air flow.

hunter_jb04's post brings up a point. Have you cleaned the filter on the intake side of the A/C? Restricted airflow can cause problems with the air conditioner.
