Don't make my mistake

Post by Tracker16 on 7/7/2010, 4:43 am

Got a new faucet for my bathroom expecting an easy install, but it was a no go.Notice the difference in the length of the water hookups. The original is 2" long and the one I got is 1 1/2" long. Not enough threads to seat the water lines.Just a heads up for the new folks like myself
trying to do mods.

Sorry to hear it didn't work. Is there enough play to pull the plumbing up a little higher?

I already replaced my faucet, but evidently mine wasn't too short.

There is enough plumbing to get to the faucet, but it will not seat. Not enough threads to screw the water lines all the way down so it will not leak.

Or is it because the plastic washers that hold the faucet in place takes up too much room, not allowing thread space for the pipes?

You should be able to go to a plumbing supply and get 2 bushing's and 2 nipple's to extend the water hookups

Bummer! I think your the only person I've read about with that problem. I think I'd try a different faucet before adding nipples and couplings. Take your tape measure with you!

It was the first mod we did to ours. Matter of fact, we did it on the same day we brought it home from the dealer. It may have taken 15 minutes max. Easy as could be on ours.

You don't have to rub it in MountainMan
I think that's what I'll do MountainMan,Just take the tape measure with me and get a different one.

Thats probably the only thing thats went that easy....

I'm usually in the same boat as you with several trips to the hardware store and two days on a 10 minute job.

Just how it goes sometimes.

I also noticed that water was getting under the sink when my hands were wet and I would turn the water off. So I took the sink out and lined the underside with plumbers putty. No more leak and the sink doesn't seem to be as cheep sounding now.

Mel,
There are 4 screw clamps underneath that hold the sink down, just loosen them and loosen the tail pipe nut and the sink lifts right out.

I really need to upgrade my faucets, especially in the 1/2 bath. The faucet in the half bath is at a weird angle and the spout doesn't stick far enough into the bowl so every time you wash your hands water gets all over the counter. Those faucets ya'll put look 100x better
