Under-belly Liner

Post by jtizzle on 6/26/2010, 11:45 am

I recently purchased some SeeLevel II gages and was in the process of installing them. They require that you access the tanks to put the exterior sensors to the outside of all the storage tanks on the cat. Has anyone completely removed the cloroplast type plastic covering their holding tanks and installed something else for protection? It seems that the plastic serves not much of a purpose other than collecting dirt and maybe preventing a few rocks from hitting the plastic tanks. I am going to have some angle iron stand-off welded to the frame and eventually have some underbelly storage for a jack, spare and kingpin support. Just wondering if anyone has come up with any other solutions to covering their tanks. I also thought of maybe having them sprayed with a lineX type of truck liner.

I'm in agreement with the collecting dirt. It looks like it was a good idea, in theory, but it fails to complete it's task due to the poor fastening and sag that develops. I've seen some trailers that have no protection at all for the tanks underneath, my in-laws Jayco for one. I think linex would be fine but that stuff isn't cheap anymore. Since your welding anyway just slide some treated plywood in underneath. It's probably not much heavier thatn linex in the end.

Thanks Treekiller. I am going to just take it all off. If I find another solution later I will do something. For now I like the idea that I can see everything while I am modding! I really like the idea of getting some storage under there. I will save the plastic and I can always muscle it back up there. Spiders will have to find a new home as now I can see em!

You will have to strap your tank valve actuator cables if you remove your under belly plastic as the cables are just loose in there. I have also thought of making my own under belly protection. The factory plastic is fit very poorly and sags badly on my 09 32QBBS. I thought of using plexiglass but that stuff is pricey. Let us know what you go with if you fab your own.
