New pin box, towing questions
I purchased a moreryde pin box today for our Cat. Couldn't decide whick one. Our Cat is small so I figured I'd get a little simpler one rather than messing around with air pressures. Plus my truck has air bags already.
We are leaving for our trip to Yellowstone in two weeks. I never pulled a fiver that far before. I was concerned as we have a lot of bounce. Especially rough roads and overpasses. Hope this helps. Any comments? Any other mods that may help the ride? Seems like our old 3/4 ton truck was softer that this 1 ton dually.
Also, maybe I should get another topic going but any more towing info from you veterns would be great. I've towed boats all over the country fishing tournaments years ago. Just never towed in any mountains or 7% grades etc.
Thanks

Re: New pin box, towing questions
The new pin box will be a big improvement. Having the air bags to keep you level while hooked up also doesn't hurt. There are other things you could add, but until you give your new pin box a good test, you won't know for sure. My advice is to take your Cat out for a test run and see how it handles for you. If you find that the chucking is now within the "tolerable" range, maybe you won't need to do any more add-ons or mods.
Not sure from your signature whether you have a short box or not. Do dually's require a long bed?
But if you do have a short box, you're going to live with some chucking regardless of what you do. It's the nature of the beast with the shorter wheel base.

Based upon the tow vehicle your signature showed...you'll start
spinning the tires before you hit a road you can't drag the WC
up.
I've never towed a boat. But we had a really short poptop camper
and it was a royal pain, compared to the WC, to back. Jackknife
in a heart beat. Now the biggest problem is finding a place to
align the various parts. By the time the truck/WC are hooked up
and pointed straight I'm guessing we're about 45' long.

The Mor-ryde is a great product and after pulling with it, I think it should be a law that every camper has one. The new Cameo we have has it and even with a pin weight of ~3k, there is no chugging and we can't even feel when the camper hits bumps. I used to "prepare" myself every time we were coming up to an overpass, but know I don't even worry about it. It makes for a much less stressful trip and I am near as beat out at the end of the day.
