Ft Wilderness WDWorld

Post by Admin on 6/24/2010, 12:20 pm

Saw a few cats . one was on the same loop with us but didn't get a chance to visit.

We stayed on the 1000 loop. VERY VERY NICE. Big spaces with plenty of shade from pines and hardwoods.

Its straight across from the trading post store and the pool is right behind the trading post. You'd think it would be loud on that loop but it was very quiet . We had a spot on the back side of the loop . 1018.

Very nice bath houses on the loop also. I think I'll be requesting that loop from now on.

The only complaint I have about ft wilderness is there is no WIFI on the loops. I picked up wifi on loop 300 the last time I was there, but loop 1000 I couldn't pick it up. Plus its 9 dollars a day to use it if you could. For the price you pay to stay it could easily be added in and wifi is to simple to make available through out the whole campground not to have it. If you want the cable modem its a 125 deposit, and 9 bucks a day if you log on. Thats pure robbery if you ask me.
\
Other than that, You can't beat Ft wilderness.

We stayed in loop 1000 before the loop was upgraded to premium. I think our site was 1002. It was the second site from the road... on what would be considered the inside of the loop. It wasn't on the same side as the comfort station, but it was very close. It was very hard to get in back then. Somebody moved his truck so we would have room. If he had been off playing somewhere, we couldn't have gotten in, it was that tight.

I'm glad we have the wireless broadband. It's very cost effective for us, as it's our only internet service.

We bought a wireless air card from e-bay, its a mode USB720. Its not the newest card, but it has worked great everywhere we tried it so far. Its a pay as you go, there are 3 plans that Verizon offers:

100MB for $15 for 1 day
300MB for $30 for 1 week
1Gig for $50 for 1 month

We usually buy the 1 Gig and then don't have to worry about running out of bandwidth. The great part of the prepaid is, when you run out of bandwidth, it just stops working, so there are no overage charges.

If you get one, be sure to buy it from a reputable person on EBay, and be sure its new, not used. Verizon said you have to be careful on buying a used one on EBay, cause it could be stolen, and it it is, Verizon shuts them down and will not reactivate them for anyone.

Tom
I have been using Verizon Wireless Broadband for years and when I signed up the Card was free from Verizon. If we are going to be off the road for awhile I have it deactivated and then reactivated when we hit the road again. It's part of our cell phone pkg and we have never had a overage charge. Jim

Jim,

Yes, if you sign a contract the card is free. But I didnt want to sign a contract, so the prepaid works great for me. Card cost me $50.00 on Ebay and Verizon charged a $35.00 activation fee. But as long as I use it 1 within every 6 months, I dont have to pay anyother activation fees.

Loop 1000 has plenty of room now. The pads are extra wide, and angled so you could just about close your eyes and get it in there the first try.

I like the air card pay as you go idea. But most places we stay have free wifi. or I can use my wifes iphone if I need to check something.

Iphones are about the coolest gadget you could imagine. I'd like to have one to but I can't force myself to add another 30 bucks a month. You tell yourself ah its just 30 / 50 / 100 bucks ,,,, but when you start adding it up at the end of the month its enough to make you puke. Dish / att / local DSL are killing me already.

Heres some pic's of the site I was in on loop 1000,,,,, #1018. Thats my niece and her husbands camper next to us on the right. The family gathering reservations work if you ever have someone traveling with you and you want to stay on the same loop.

Phillip,
Great photos - you know, of course, that the photos make me want to be there.

I looked it up on GoogleEarth. Looks like you had a huge yard. I was wrong about our site # when we were in loop 1000 - we were in 1006, not 1002. It was a great location. The bus stop was close by and the busses beeped a lot.... but not enough to bother us.

All the sites on that loop now are huge. the one's on the inner side where a little closer together but still nice.
