Low pressure when hooked up to mains water

Low pressure when hooked up to mains water
We have virtually no water pressure when hooked up to mains water at parks. Last night the toilet bowl filled and was overflowing with mains water - not sure whether this was because there was a buildup in the pipes that it diverted to the toilet...
Checked hoses into van - nothing wrong - pressure at the park was exremely good.

Re: Low pressure when hooked up to mains water
Two things.
1. Do you have one of those pressure regulator gizmo's that hooks
to the hose? Ours failed, was working in the morning when we
unhooked and didn't in the afternoon when we arrived somewhere else,
and we couldn't get any water.
2. How's the water filter cartridge look? Because there's a difference between low pressure and low flow.

For me, it's been a clogged water filter

Re: Low pressure when hooked up to mains water
Hubby checked the water regulator - off and on the hose - and there was no diference.
We actual removed the water filter cartridge on the advice of the seller in Australia as the water pump kept coming on and staying on. It was clean. Jim however did check the water filter container and removed it and cleaned it out - very minor amount of silt at the botom and the water was clear.
Has us baffled.
Thanks for responding with your ideas.

Re: Low pressure when hooked up to mains water
I don't know what might be causing your low pressure. Possibly a kink in the line, something like bending a garden hose to make it stop flowing.
About your toilet bowl filling and overflowing. That sounds similar to what happened to us, except our water leaked out on the outside of the bowl and got the floor wet. To see our problem and solution, you can go back in this thread to Dec 20, 2008, or just click this link:

I'm a little confused about your water pump, and maybe I read something wrong. You should have your pump on only when you are using water from your fresh water tank. But, if you have your water pump turned on when you are using city or park water, I imagine that could cause problems right there.

Re: Low pressure when hooked up to mains water
Somewhere in what little docs came with the unit I remember reading "Do
not use the water pump when hooked to city water as it may cause
damage." Or words to that effect. There's a check valve
by/in the pump that gets trashed IIRC.

Re: Low pressure when hooked up to mains water
Has anyone checked the screen filter where the water hose attaches to the trailer. It's a small wire screen that fits inside the connection where the water hose connects. I remove the filter and replace it. This small filter catches debris before it ever gets to the main water filter.

Re: Low pressure when hooked up to mains water
ok...I have tried everything. stopped using the filter that came with my wildcat (couldn't get the thing off with the round plastic "wrench" to install a new one. Just bought a filter that hooks up to the hose at the campground spigot. Have a regulator..small stream of water. If I take the filter off. Decent flow. Also, I think I may have closed the one bypass on the water heater that I should have left open. I did ok on the top one and the bottom one, but I also turned the one on the left side. I have hot water...just takes forever to fill up the sink for dishes. Help

Re: Low pressure when hooked up to mains water
If you didn't bypass the internal filter, and it's clogged, you'll still have lousy pressure / flow.
That filter housing takes some muscle to remove if it's been on for a while.

If the filter housing was not put on correctly good luck but it will come off. Also in this blog somewhere is a Mod to add a drain to the bottom of the bowl. One other thing you did not mention. Did you have a valve in the trailer open before you tried to take the bowl off? I do this to make sure all the pressure is released.

If I remember correctly, there is no way to bypass the filter unless you've installed a bypass hose.
How did you stop using it?
Sometimes it is tough to get off, you probably will need an extra pair of hands.
If your in a campground, I'm sure your neighbor would be glad to come over and assist.
