From Minnesota to Hot Springs Ark.

Post by beartoo on 6/19/2010, 8:18 am

I have to leave for funeral in Hot Springs Ark. and really have never been south on 35. What are the roads like? Are there plenty of fuel spots and camp grounds close to the highway for over night stays?

I35 is pretty good through Iowa and into Missouri. You'll be off I35 after Kansas City. The roads are good down to Branson, MO area. No experience in Arkansas.

Not much experience camping off of I35. There is a nice USACE Recreation area north of Des Moines called Saylorville Lake. It has several campgrounds. There are places to camp near the highway in the Branson area also.

Well, we just did a trip up from Houston to Branson. The roads are good, but very hilly and very twisty. If there is an accident (which there was for us), it could really tangle the traffic. But once you're on I-40 into Little Rock, and I-30 over to Hot Springs, everything is great. It is a beautiful drive even if you have any hang-ups. With our two 20 - 30 minute back-ups, we still made pretty good time up 65.
