Wheel Bearings and Seals Part Numbers

Post by oldelmer1 on 5/1/2008, 6:16 am

Just thought I would start a post about the part numbers needed for replacing the seals and bearings on your axles.

My 2006 29RLBS with 5200 AL-KO axles, 12 x 2 Electric Brake Assembly,
AG(auto grease) Hub
Dexter Seals #- 010-010-00 I.D.- 2.125, O.D.- 3.376.

NAPA # 21352, but it looks like you can get them in either single or double lip, double lip is better, but single will work.

Dexter.........Service Kit No.....National......NOK............Chicago Rawhide
010-010-00....K71-304-00.......470972.....AD8717-E0...........21352

Per the Al-KO website: Grease Seal, Double Lip Spring 2-1⁄8 (AG) Part # 568209

Dont know about the bearings, yet.

The information in your post is very helpful when you are looking for those parts. Wish they had been available a couple of weeks ago. This will help others looking for the parts prior to getting into the wheel bearings. cheers

Rhino,

Yes, I know, the reason i posted this is cause our ADMIN, Phillip, called me this morning asking is I knew the part number of the seals cause he was at the NAPA dealer trying to buy seals and bearings.

Thanks to Shooter, I was able to look them up on the old forum for him. So I thought it would be good to start this post so others could find it and add to it.

Phillip, how'd you make out?

NOT GOOD AT ALL

Post by Admin on 5/1/2008, 4:23 pm

the uneducated parts counter person didn't have a clue of what he was looking for. Niether did anyone else in there.
This is where I'm at so far.
#21352 Napa part number did'nt really match what I had. The inside dia was smaller on the napa part, and it was also a single lip seal. The one I took off is a Double lip. So I'm going back with a double lip.
No parts store in town could cross reference the Dexter #010-010-00 , didn't show up at all.
But I checked on that part number with easternmarine.com and that is the double lip #.
The #010-001-00 is the single lip seal. But without holding it in my hand I can't really say its the right one.

I emailed lippert, " I have the Lippert axles " Axletek is stamped on the hub.
The lippert guy's email said to cross reference Timken 10-36 for 12" hubs and 10-19 / for 10" hubs. ? Nobody could reference a Timken number either. The one store that did it came up as a Output shaft seal ,,,, ??? go figure. Of course he wouldnt give me a easy dexter #. ....

So I called a RV place over in macon, and the tech guy there sounded like he had what I'm looking for , I hope. Heading over there in the morning.

I got my catch

Post by Admin on 5/2/2008, 7:15 am

OK, Quick trip to macon, and found the Exact Match to what I took out.

Its a Tekonsha # 5606 :

Comes in a Pack of two for $12 bucks. Read the package in the picture : replaces Al-Co 12"x2", Dexter 12"x2". I wanted a spare set of bearings and seals so I bought 3 packs. All that he had. Kinda hesitated on selling me that last one. But no backing down here, 2guns I'm gonna take your stuff man.....

I held the Napa part # 21352 in my hand and it didn't look anything like what came out of my hub. I'd kinda think we're using the same seal on all these axles. I'd say that napa number is not the right thing.... ?

But grabbed my trusty 1x1 piece of wood and tapped the seal in pretty and snug, I'm ready to roll... , well I've got 3 more to do first.,,,, dang.,,,,,,,,, AwwMan

Nice bearing packer

Post by Admin on 5/4/2008, 1:10 pm

I was at O'riellys auto parts store this morning and found the bearing packer better than the one I had.

It has a clear plastic cup on the bottom, a plunger with holes in the center, and a handle that you press it all down with.

The plunger has a grease fitting to pump grease into the bottom, put the bearing on top of the plunger, press it all down with the handle and bam, you've got a nicely repacked bearing with no doubt that its packed good from the inside. Its kinda pricey but well worth it., $25

Its similar to the one in this picture.

Re: Wheel Bearings and Seals Part Numbers

Post by Duke on 5/3/2009, 1:29 am

WOW! This sounds more confusing than I thought it would be to get the correct part numbers. I have a 2009 29rlbs and want to carry an extra set of wheel bearings and grease seals . I stopped in at the dealer this weekend and he didn't know the correct part numbers. He said he would have to call the factory and check. I thought that they would know, they repack bearings and such. I know they don't look at every bearing p/n when they repack the bearings. SO where do I start? I guess I need to know what axle I have, The size of the brake drum. Then what, to be sure I have the correct wheel bearings and seals? Appreciate any ideas. Thanks Duke Laughing

Hi Duke,

I guess the best way to be sure is to pull them apart and look at the part numbers stamped on the seals & bearings.

How long have you had your CAT?, how many miles are on it? Most folks here recommend repacking every year, but I go every 2 years.

I probably would wait till you repack the bearings, then you have them apart and know what the numbers are.

The correct seals for my 2007 29RLBS is National (Timkin) 412920. This is the double lip seal.

I have the Lippert Axles, model LC152 with Axletek hubs.

Have not had to change a bearing yet.

Re: Wheel Bearings and Seals Part Numbers

Post by Duke on 5/3/2009, 2:28 pm

Hi Guys! I have only about 2000miles on the trailer. We are planning a trip Northwest and thought it would be a good idea to have a set along. Probably overkill but I like to have them just incase. I really don't want to pull the wheel if I don't have to. I just had the bearings repacked. That was probably an overkill too, but didn't know how good a job of packing the bearings the factory does so I bit the bullet and had them repacked. The trip might end up being 8000 miles. Thanks for all the feedback.. Laughing

Now what to do....

Post by bighornram on 8/29/2010, 8:06 am

So I repacked my bearings yesterday. Took in the first seal to NAPA and they sold me the #21352 seals. Somehow I missed this thread with specific part number. Today being Sunday, NAPA is closed so I can't go talk to them about it until tomorrow. Do I need to change these NAPA seals out? affraid

I guess it depends on if they fit or not. Best thing to do is pull one out and compare it to the new one, and go from there.

I talked to the boys at NAPA and after several of the guys cross referenced the numbers again, we ended up with 3 different seals on the counter to compare. None could tell me what Double lip was so I asked if I could take them over to the RV dealer a couple blocks away for their take on them. I was told I "probably would be all right". That is what the NAPA guys were saying too. I had enough doubt in my mind so I got the Tekonsha # 5606 seals and changed them out this morning. I didn't want there to be any chance of being that guy on the side of the road saying I probably should have changed them since I had only the slightest bit of doubt. I'm much more confident with the Tekonshas since the package specifies Al-Co 12"x2" and they do "look" just like the ones I pulled out.

Thanks Phillip for the part numbers. cheers

Are the bearings on Lippert/Alco axles that bad that they need changing after only a couple of years. I had a twin axle caravan for more than ten years and never changed the bearing or seals. The caravan had the same problems of really twisting the axles and putting a lot of strain on the tyres.
I am having to research fitting a mechanical hand brake on my cat, so I will look at the bearings then, and if they need replacement I will use Timken.

I just repacked the bearings the looked fine but after removing the seals the seal needs to be replaced. Next time I'll get a bearing packer.
