When we were at Crazy Horse 4 years ago, we couldn't walk up to the top. Gee, now we have to go back and walk up there....

Thanks for sharing all the great pictures.

The hike to the top is part of the annual Volksmarch held once a year in june. First time in my many trips there that it worked out to make the hike. It was definitely worth the trip and the hike was very manageable. I highly recommend it if you get the chance.

Tracker the rain seemed to follow us too, we just snapped some pics in between the breaks, which didn't seem to come very often....lol. It was a memorable trip by all.....thanks!

We are stopping near here in July for 2 days on our way to Yellowstone. I know this won't be enough time. Your pics look nice. I can't wait to go. We are staying at Mt.Rushmore KOA. Just starting to make a little plan of things to see in two days. Anything not obvious that I should see for sure?

To me,If you can make the hike up Harney Peak you have to do that. The view is simply fantastic on a clear day.

azandy On your stop at the Black Hills make sure you eat at the Alpine Inn( (http://www.alpineinnhillcity.com) great food it is located on main street Hill City. Also the Paririeberry Winery ( http://www.prairieberry.com/) is also a great place to stop. There are a lot of neat things to do in the Hills enjoy.

Mount rushmore is the obvious. Custer park and the needles and iron mountain road are a nice drive with kids....don't miss the wild life loop. Either wind or jewel caves are neat to see, especially with kids. Make sure you visit those early in the day to get reservations. The KOA campground has a nice trail ride with the horses. If you feel the need to stretch the legs before the drive to yellowstone, Harney Peak is a must! Like Tracker mentioned, the views are amazing as you can see five states on a clear day. The hike is 4-6 hours round trip and realtively easy walking on a well traveled trail. Have fun!
