Does your bedroom slide leak?

Post by oldelmer1 on 6/17/2010, 12:56 pm

When MAXTOR and I compared our East coast to his West Coast 29 RLBS's, I noticed that his outside bedroom slide corner molding was different than mine. Mine has the vinyl cover for the screws on the bottom, where his is on the side of the slide. Mine leaks, his does not.

So, I thought I would start a poll to see where your vinyl is and if you have the leak or not.

Are you talking about the molding that attaches the slide seal to the trailer that is around the slide or the outer flange of the slide itself

When the slide is all the way out, on the sides at the bottom. Its like an L bracket that attaches the side to the bottom. Hope this helps, if not, I can add a picture.

I second what Tracker16 said.
Mine does not leak. at this time
The dealer changed the slide seals on ours.
The bottom cross seal was on top of the up and down side seals.
They changed it to the side seals on top of the bottom cross seal.

OK, here is what I have for now. Notice the metal L bracket. Ignore the "THIS LIP"

My vinyl strip is under the slide.

Mine is on the bottom, but it doesnt matter if its on or off, mine still leaks, been to the dealer about 9 times now, even had the floor replaced and leaks even more. Mine leaks from between the floor and sub floor not the black fabric. Supposed to have it back this week, most likely I will end up getting rid of it.

Tom:
Mine has the L Bracket with the screws on the side with the vinyl strip covering the screws.
In the Picture with your fingers. Where you index finger is located just behind the side flap seal I have a bubble seal attached to the slide that runs down the side of the slide.
Mine even has the short strip cauking located in the same place as yours.
When mine was leaking you could daylite in the left hand bottom corner from inside the bedroom when the slide is in the out position.

Re: Does your bedroom slide leak?

Frank,

Well, I was hoping that if your L bracket was on opposite of mine(vinyl on the side) you didn't have the leaking problem.

Oh well, guess that thought was incorrect.

The day light is there cause the L bracket runs all the way inside the slide, instead of stopping right before the ribber. I used a Dremel tool and cut my L bracket back to the rubber seals do not touch the L bracket, but it still leaked.

But since I cut the vinyl back by 2 or 3 inches, no more leak. I assume the water was running inside the vinyl and then inside the camper.

Bedroom slide leak

Post by bert and hap on 8/15/2010, 12:29 am

Ours is on the bottom as well. Leaked also! I took steps to correct the problem a couple of months ago. Seems to have the problem fixed. Can't take pics right now, but we are going out for a 10 or 12 day trip the first of Sept. Really don't want it to rain, but if it does I will give you an update. If it doesn't rain, I will give it the water hose test. If it still doesn't leak, we will post pics.
Happy camping, Bert and Hap

Hi Jameseh,

Glad to hear that stopped your leak. That vinyl strip must be holding the water and it runs either right into the camper, or it get into the screw holes and runs in that way.

Re: Does your bedroom slide leak?

All of my slides have a small piece of aluminum at a 45 degree angle that directs the water from running back towards the inside of the slide. It is caulked to make the water flow towards the outside of the slide I put a picture of this on an earlier post. So far we have not had any leaks. Also does anybody have slide out covers this may also be helping to prevent leaks.

Tom,

Add me to the "no" column. Interesting that you and I have the same model and year of Wildcat. Yours has leaked and mine hasn't. My leak was in the roof seam where the RPDM material met the end of the livingroom/diningroom slide on the outside corner. Easily fixed, once I figured out where the leak was.

Rich5117,
I guess its the factory fix on your camper, seeings that its a model year 2010. Us older units don't have anything to help the water run off.

We've had slide out covers since day 1, so that doesn't really make a difference.

Mike,
Your vinyl strip that covers the screws, is it on the side or the bottom? and does it go all the way into the coach?

Tom,

The vinyl strips go all the way to the end of the slide. When I pull back the rubber mask seal, I can see the inner seal and the vinyl strip going beyond that seal.

I have a leak in the dinner slide only found out this weekend, I will have to check the seals behind the rubber on mine. I thought it might have been coming from the top outer edge of the slide where there is a mitre join that has something like silver gaffer tape over it.

Mike & Richard,

Is your vinyl on the bottom or the side of the bedroom slide?

Tom,

My vinyl strips are on the bottom of the slide and are part of an "L" shaped cap that seals the bottome corner of the slide. The sides of the "L" are sealed to the bottom side of the slides with caulking, as is the bottom of the "L". The vinyl strip obviously covers the screws that attach the "L" to the slide.

Mike,
I was hoping to gather some info on this leak, as in, if everyone who has their vinyl on the bottom leaks, verses on the side.

But I think everyone who does have the leak, has their vinyl on the bottom, not the side.

Sean,
If the water is coming in at the corner of the bedroom slide, remove the vinyl and see if it stops. This stopped my leak and a few others have reported no more leak too.

Had a chance to look at a friends new Montana. The bedroom slide has the same type of seal as the cat, in behind it is a plastic channel extending from the top to the bottom with a curved piece sealed to the metal at the bottom (Picture 1) the other slides have the same channel that extends below the bottom metal strip and prevents water from running back into the unit (Picture 2). Maybe this is something that can be modified on our cats

Thanks for the picture Rich5117, That would be nice to have on our CAT's, but I still think the issue is the vinyl strip being on the bottom and filing up with water.

I dont think there has anyone reporting a leak with the vinyl strip on the side.

Re: Does your bedroom slide leak?

Post by mrwoodmin on 10/6/2010, 10:40 am

Been raining all day. My vinyl is on the bottom and the corners do leak. I spent over an hour with a flashlight inside and out looking for it. And as Oldelmer says its that vinyl strip that runs on the bottom, laying on my side watching it drip in from that vinyl strip. I kept after it for 20 minutes or so with a paper towel watching it continue. So I went outside with a razor and cut that vinyl strip back to just before it goes under the black flap. TADA No more leaking inside. I will take pics and post along with a couple other observations.
