Unnerving Sign

Post by Richard Mondavi on 6/9/2010, 12:37 pm

Last fall, as we were nearing our destination campground in the Mount Rushmore/Hill City area in South Dakota I saw a road sign that sent chills up and down my spine. Yee Gads, are you kidding me??? The road isn't wide enough to turn around.

Fortunately the campground was right around the bend in the road, long before we reached the tunnel.

Just out of curiosity, which CG was just around the bend?

I've been through that tunnel on a motorcycle.

That sign was on SR 87 and we were going to the Horse Thief Campground. SR 87 continues on into Custer State Park. Here’s a photo of the tunnel.

It wasn’t the only tunnel in the area. This next one was in Custer State Park and was narrow enough that I pulled in my outside mirrors.

Yikes!!! That's 5th wheel heck right there!! (Phil, I love the filter, cuz heck is NOT what I typed. )

Now that I seen the pictures, I also recognize where you were. We've been that before ourselves. The drive is beautiful, IF you don't have a high profile.
