A question for you Southerners...
Have you ever heard of an Amalgamation Cake? It has coconut, raisins and nuts in it. My mother's family would have an Amalgamation cake and a Lane cake at every family reunion, but the Amalgamation cake recipe didn't get handed down. I would love to have a family recipe instead of taking something off the internet.

I'm in the middle of Georgia and have never heard of that. I'll ask my mom or grandmother.

Re: A question for you Southerners...
Thanks Tater. I knew I could get a recipe off the WWW, but looking at the 8 cake recipes from the site provided shows that all 8 are completely different than the next, with no rating. So I don't know which one to pick.
This much I remember...the cake was more or less a plain white cake. It's the filling and frosting that made the cake. That's where all the goodies were; pecans, raisins, and coconut.
My mother's family used to serve this as a spiffed up version of a coconut cake.

Re: A question for you Southerners...
Seems the solution is simple: make and eat each of the eight!

Re: A question for you Southerners...
That would have been my suggestion. Try them all. They're probably all very good.

Re: A question for you Southerners...
The DW suggested I try to get hold of shirt-tail relation to see if the recipe got handed down in a different direction.
I sure appreciate the input though.
