A new tire problem
Just completed a 2000+ mile trip, first of the season for the 'Cat. Had wheel bearings packed, checked spring shackles, etc, checked tires for wear, etc. The tires had about 20K miles on them in 2.5 years (original tires). Tread depth was 5/32 on all tires. Tires were checked at fuel stops and were ok. After a long (475 mile day) with speeds below 65mph, I checked tires again. The left rear tire was down to the wear indicator on the inside. I decided to go on into Tulsa (about 300 miles) and watch the tire as I went. We made it into Tulsa with no more change in the tire wear. I replaced the tire with a new tire. Old tire was 5/32 on the outside and inside was 2/32. Wear was uniform for each depth, around the circumference on the tire. No evidence of belt damage. Tire shop saw nothing wrong other than wear to the inside. Pulled the trailer 1300 more miles home with uniform tread depth (8/32) across the tire when I arrived. There is no evidence of axle movement, U bolts loose, etc.
The question is: How does a tire wear that unevenly in 475 miles after 20K of even wear and then an additional 1300 miles of uniform wear? The tire shops here have no answer. It is going up on blocks Wednesday and we are going to go through everything to try to determine what is happening.

Re: A new tire problem
Let me know what you find, I think mines doing the same thing.
Left drivers side rear. inside tread wear.
Opposite passenger side tire looks fine with even tread wear.

Re: A new tire problem
I replaced my powerking with a new powerking this morning. my buddy carry's the original tires so I went back with one. $105 bucks.
I'll see if it wears again on that inside. I believe I swapped that tire out or moved it from another spot when I first got the camper.
We'll see what it does.

Re: A new tire problem
I'm with Phil, my left rear tire is wearing on the inside edge too. I think it's from blind side backing into my driveway at home. It seems to scrub the most in a hard turn. I rotated them to get it out of that position. I didn't notice any abnormal wear until this year. I put my spare in that position since it had the most tread and put the warn tire as a spare. I'm sure I'm due for a new set come next season.
