Any idea what this is?

Hi, near the subwoofer in my 5er I have this little box with buttons on it and a phone cable connected to it. It runs behind the sub with a ton of coiled phone cable. My guess is that it has something to do with the sub but pushing the buttons don't seem to do anything at all. If anyone can enlighten me, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

How many wires come out and is there any place to plug something into? Seems like a switch for audio, phone or cable.

I figured it out!! It is a volume control for the sub woofer :)
