Heading out Friday
Ok guys, I'm heading to the Black hills this Friday.
Seeing how we just started traveling around,I was wondering if there are any off the beaten path kind of places you fellas might know about.I'm sure you folks have been around more than we have.Any suggestions welcome.

Re: Heading out Friday
We were out that way a few years ago and camped at Custer State Park. The Highlights for us was all the normal tourist stuff but we also hit a few other places. If your truck is not to big the Needles Highway out of Custer State Park was neat. We also went over to the Mammoth Dig, http://www.mammothsite.com/ and really enjoyed Jewel Cave NP, http://www.nps.gov/jeca/index.htm and Wind Cave NP, http://www.nps.gov/wica/index.htm, we took a old time candle light tour at one of them.
This was still in the works last time we were there so don't know anything about it, Minuteman Missile Site, http://www.nps.gov/mimi/index.htm .
Have a great trip !

Re: Heading out Friday
Heading out there myself on saturday morning for a week of R&R, fishing, atving, hiking, and just plain goofing off. I will be based in the hill city area with family. We plan on hiking to crazy horse on sunday and harney peak sometime during the week. I haven't hit the mammoth dig either and plan to with the kids one day. The caves are a definite must and they aren't as bad as they sound when it come to claustrophobia. Plan on doing some bike riding too. Here are some links for a few fun things to do while visiting......ENJOY! If in the hill city area, make sure you enjoy a lunch or dinner at the Alpine Inn steak house on the main street.

Re: Heading out Friday
The caves really aren't that bad, each has several different tours. If i remember right one of them has an elevator and paved path. It's been a few years so i may be mistaken.

Re: Heading out Friday
O.K., I'm officially
Wish we were going with you.
Depending on which way you go, try not to miss going thru the badlands.
We went through the middle of the state so we could do the traditional stuff like Corn Palace and Wall Drug, but on the way back, we headed straight south into Nebraska and stopped by the Dinosaur dig, and drove by Chimney Rock. Also, Fort Robinson is kinda nice. And of course, I couldn't be that close to the original Cabela's and not stop. Even though we now have one in LaVista, I still stop at the one in Sydney EVERY time I'm out that way. Almost a pilgrimage of sorts.
Anyway, have a safe trip and have WAY TOO MUCH FUN!!! Try to take pics and share them along with your travelogue when you get back.
