WV Mountains
I spent all of last week in one of my favorite places on earth. The Monongahela National Forest in the mountains of WV. This is a wild and beautiful place with trout and/or smallmouth bass swimming in nearly every stream. There are no crowds here other than holiday weekends. If your in the east and want to see why WV is called wild and wonderful, this is the place to visit.
Blackwater River. The river gets its namesake from its dark color. The red spruce pine needles and a type of native moss cause the dark stained water. Don't be put off from fishing though. Trout in the upper river and smallies in the lower sections thrive here.

A hike through hardwood forest dotted with huckleberries and mountain laurel rewarded us with this view.

Back at camp - Of all the pics I took, I only remembered to snap one of the campsite.

Notice all the "flagged" red spruce trees. Its easy to tell north and south without a compass here. The prevailing north winds keep limbs from growing on one side of the trees.

I doubt many national forest have this sign. I've never came across one but several have been found.

This makes everything right in the world when I'm there.

I discovered my new waterproof camera was not so waterproof after returning home. All my stream and fish pics gone.
