HWY 2 in Maine

Post by moo2613 on 5/18/2010, 4:11 am

Is anybody familiar with Hwy 2 in Maine from the Western State line to the Newport area? Looks awful squiggly on the map. I am looking for a route from Burlington, Vermont to Camden, Maine. This looked like the best route except for the part from Bethel to Newport. Thanks.

If you zoom down on the map it looks like it just follows a river bottom. The parts of maine I traveled were mostly just big rolling hills. I traveled parallel to the route your looking at to the south and it was pretty much flat and rolling hills. I traveled up to Baxter State park and then over to acadia park and bar harbor area.

Heres a elevation map link. You'll see a smaller map to the right side of the page just hold your mouse over it and it will bring up a larger map that you can follow hwy 2 with. Doesn't look to bad on there. you'll have to hold the pointer lower on the map to see the elevation color numbers.

Thanks for the map, that helps. Actually, New Hampshire looks worse, but not bad at all.

I've pulled my 5th wheel across Vermont, N Hampshire and to Bangor on HWY 2 a couple of times. The road is really not too bad, and I was able to travel at as fast a speed as I wanted to go. Very pretty road in the fall.

I believe I drove that road back when I drove a truck OTR. It wasn't like driving on I95, but we didn't have a problem getting through there. I really enjoyed the "watch for moose" signs.
