thermostat upgrade
I see that a lot of people are swapping ot their stock thermostats. Does this help stop the large temp swing between furnace cycles ??
It seems like you go from teeth chattering cold to brow dripping sweat with the stock thermostat. it has no sweet spot to maintain a constant temp.
And darn I just stopped working due to a disabilty a few months ago. I worked at a HVAC&R wholesale supplier. They had so many thermostats it was crazy. The newist one from Honeywell, I kid you not, was a high def. color screen with remote control.

Re: thermostat upgrade
That's exactly why I changed mine out. Now the temp swings are only a few degrees. One of the best mods I have done. Purchased a Hunter thermostat from Lowes, if memory serves it was around $25.

Got my Hunter from Walmart. Don't remember what it cost. Varies 1 (one) degree. Works really good.

Re: thermostat upgrade
I got the hunter similar to the one Oldelmer1 used. Copied his wiring diagram aka " I had to call him and ask which wire went where" but he sailed me through it and it works great. My heater was not working at the time I installed it. I just had a chance to use it the other weekend . It works great. Takes a second to get used to it working properly believe it or not. cause when it kicked off the first time I thought it was messing up, I wasn't used to it parking on the right temp ....
And again thanks Oldelmer for getting me wired up.

Re: thermostat upgrade
The Hunter has a nice feature in that you can vary the temp range from +/- 1* to +/- 2*. The only drawback to any of the digital stats is that they don't come with a 2-speed fan control. The user has to add that, but it's not rocket science. There are a couple of posts on this forum showing exactly how to do it.

Re: thermostat upgrade
The Hunter helps with the temp swing but it doesn't stop it in some cases. Our furnace is too big for our TT (IMO) and during the time it runs after the thermostat tells it to shut down, it will heat the trailer another 1 or 2 degrees. Someday I'll install a better stat that anticipates the shut down time (like the one in my house) and doesn't over-heat.
