TV Surround Sound
We have a new 2010 Wildcat 25RL and are still learning how some things work.
Our WC has surround sound with a subwoofer but it doesn't seem to work when the TV is acquiring over the air broadcasts from the roof antenna. We only get the audio from the TV's internal speaker(s), which of course aren't optimal.
Should over the air broadcast audio be able to access the surround system through the Concertone or not?
thanks, Kim

Re: TV Surround Sound
Others on this board might have been able to, but not me. I've tried hooking the TV audio output to every possible connection on the Concertone and never could get the sound to come through. Perhaps it's the TV that I own. I use a seperate DVD player that I have hooked up to the Concertone and that comes through the surround sound no problem.
I quit using the DVD player on the Concertone because after about an hour of playing a movie it would freeze up and quit playing. The Concertone is just one of many reasons why my next fifth wheel won't be a Forest River product.

Re: TV Surround Sound
Kim & Richard,
I think that the only way to get surround sound from broadcast TV (or CATV for that matter) would be to use the TV tuner in the Concertone. By passing both the video and audio signal through the Concertone, I think that surround sound (if available on a specific program or channel) would play through the Cat's speakers.
Just a thought.

I redid the wiring in the back of the concertone to have surround sound all the time, but now if you are watching tv you cant listen to the stereo outside. The TV cable form the factory does not go thru the stereo.

thanks all...I guess the quick answer is not without work and still not quite what is wanted...at least you've saved me the frustration of continuing to play with it

Re: TV Surround Sound
Are you looking for true surround sound or just the sound to come thru the concertone? I have a set of audio cables that I place on the audio out plugs on my TV and I plug it in to the audio in component plugs on the separate wall plates and then switch the concertone to that component and I do get sound thru the concertone speakers. But it is not true surround sound but its definitely better then the tv speakers.
You should have a panel with two additional input component plugs near your concertone one should be audio/video the other should be just audio this is for just this type of hook up or to use with your ipod etc. If your tv has audio out plugs you should be able to run sound thru your concertone. Of course if the wiring is screwed up on the back of the concertone as many people have found, it could be a little harder to figure out. Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

I am only looking for the sound from the surround system; I realize that I won't get true surround sound from FTA.
However...you set me in motion and I got behind the LCD to find that there was a set of audio wires hooked up into the audio out. They disappeared into the wall and when I found the component panel I found an audio set hooked up to it. BINGO, same pair of wires! I had assumed that the TV was hooked directly into the Concertone like my home theatre receiver and didn't relate to the mysterious set plugged into the component panel.
All that was wrong was that the factory hooked the audio into AV2 but had the switch set to AV1. A flip of the switch and shazaam...sound! Much better than the internal TV speakers.
Thanks for your hint. Sometimes we look for the complicated when it's really simple! I guess having so many warranty issues is making me gunshy.

Re: TV Surround Sound
When I first got my Wicked Kitty the TV went thru the Stereo. When we upgraded to a 600 they had deleted that feature. We had an old TV so my RV repair place had to add a converter and cables so we could watch TV and have SS. Instructions on how to do this came with the radio. Well the SS did not work. We hooked a separate cable to the Audio out on the TV and plugged it into the plate that has the jacks for the VCR or Camera. I did not like that so when this radio died I discovered that the Stereo has hook ups available for audio only. Check out the wires marked input 2 on the back of the Stereo. These are not used for the 600 series radio. Plug in your audio cables and there you go. A cleaner setup then having permanent wires in the plate. Just set imput to 2 on the stereo.

Question is do you want SS in the trailer and listen to the radio? Both the 500 and 600 I have had will not do that. Factory wired that way. I can watch the TV in the trailer and listen to the radio out side. No SS in the trailer.

When I installed my new Stereo I found out that Forest River only uses one video cable. Mine uses two which is different from normal. Factory wired that way. Anybody else use 2.

Re: TV Surround Sound
You have to install a 110 converter or by a new TV.

Re: TV Surround Sound
We were able to get audio sound from our TV on the concertone. I just bought a 4$ audio cord (not sure the technical name) at Walmart. It has a jack on one side and the red and white jacks on the opposite side of the cord. You plug it into the headphone jack on the TV and the red and white into the wall plate by the concertone. It seems to work well - and the kids are happy because they can now watch TV with sound outside...

We plug the cords into the Audio out in the rear.
