first and second trip of season

Post by G Herrmann on 5/16/2010, 6:42 am

the first trip three weeks ago, checked the weather forecast. was going to be a little cloudy chance of showers, not to bad. We got to the campground and got everything set up, sat down to relax. after about 1.5 hours the wind starts to howl and the clouds are rolling in. Well we head in side to wait out the storm. thank goodness for sat. tv. now its 5 pm and getting worse, the camper is shakeing and the rain starts. Bedtime roll around with no let up. I wake up about 3am all is quiet but darn cold. I keep hearing a thud every now and then. I get up look out the window a there is 6 " of heavy wet snow. The thud is from the snow falling off the tree and landing on the roof. After daybreak, the snow melts, the sun comes out. At about 10am the wind start again, then comes the rain dirty mud rain cause the wind was blowing so hard. So we spent another day and night inside. Packed up and went home the next day cause our little trip was over. That days weather was great.

Second trip a week later to same spot, we had the weather change again but no snow, just the mud rain from the wind. Well at least we know the WC has no leaks and the furnace works great. The weather around here can change in a heartbeat.

Heading to the same spot in a couple of days. It should be a better trip this time.

I hope you have better weather for the next trip. I like your positive spin of knowing the trailer doesn't leak and the furnace works.

That's why I keep a very large collection of DVD's. You never know what you'll get while camping. Also I keep a spare DVD player in case my Concertone quits. I got to watch the whole DVD collection Band Of Brothers due to a cold rainy weekend of camping.

Well, they just changed the weather report for my next trip. RAIN as log as the wind does not blow I can sit under the awning. The campground is at the end of a 7 mile long lake. it acts like a wind tunnel. thats why we get the mud rain. I have to put about 75 pounds of weight on the sat. dish to keep it in place.

My wife has some pics of the snow from the first trip on her phone. I'll see if I can get them posted sometime.

Sounds like you must be camping on Horsetooth Rerservoir.

Richard, you are right, horsetooth rerservior. I called it a lake cause at the moment I was not able to think of the right word "rerservior"

no it not all TV there is always some extra cleaning to do or fixin on those darn night and day shades, sorting things out that you have packed away that you never use. However I this weather pattern keeps up I will run out of things to do.

It rocks! We watched it over a 3-day weekend. It started raining Friday morning while setting up the trailer till Sunday evening before it stopped. We'd of been screwed without DVD's. Was too damp and cold to sit out side in the rain not to mention do any sight seeing. I hate the cold and I hate being wet! lol

Also have the M.A.S.H DVD collection as well. It's fun to pull out now and than.
