Larry

When we purchased out 29RLBS the dealer had plenty of the Bauer Products J301 keyes for $5.00 each. I could not find a locksmith that had a blank for the key so I paid the $$ so we would have back ups. Hope your dealer has them also. Jim

Your local dealer should stock them.

Thanks I am going to try dealer today. I don't know why they just give me one key when we bought the camper I guess so you have to buy the keys from them when you loose them.

Thanks Larry

Something to think about.

We didn't feel that the contents of our basement were secure, so we bought new locks from a locksmith for the trash bin door and all of the basement doors (2 locks for each door - one replaced the old lock, and one replaced the latch on the other end). All of the locks are keyed the same, and they're not the standard flat keys, the new ones are round. We have spare keys, just in case.

Larry,

I too changed the locks out on my storage doors. I purchased three locks to replace the three CH751 locks on the street side, curb side and front storage doors. I still have the CH751 locks in my spares box.

When I purchased my CAT in 2006 the dealer provided two of each key (entrace door key, CH751 key and the Bauer J301 key). Guess he was being kind.

I looked it up and then asked Scruffy if he bought anything else that day. The cost for 8 locks and extra keys was just pennies short of $70.00. The reason we put two locks in each door was that we read that someone turned one of the latches and forced a door open - and took some valuable stuff from the basement.

We figure it was $70 well spent.

I think everyone has a 751 and 301 key on their Cat. Not sure why all of us seem to have a different key for the trash can door. Do any of you know?

I think as I only have one 301 key left, I may change all ours too. I think a CH751 probably fits most campers. Not that we have much, but maybe just a piece of mind.
I do like the idea of two on each door. In the front, I could move one of the turn latchs to the middle and two locks on the outside.

I changed all the access door locks on ours. The biggest reason was to have just one key on my ring. The other was so everyone in the campground did not have a key. I also did put two locks on the front compartment door with the thumb turn in the middle.

In retrospect, our RV's are as unsecured as you can get. I can get in with a large screwdriver just as fast as I can with the key.

Thanks for all the replys looked all over town no one had them even the dealer did not have any he said. Local locksmith said he could probally make me a key but wasn't sure and would be about 15.00 so I thought that was a little high so I called Bauer Products and they are sending the keys for 2.50 each plus shipping. not a bad deal lady said she would put them in the mail today. I would have just changed the locks but my arm was not long enough to reach the bottom lock

Thanks again Larry

I have the same model but it is a west coast unit. Where is this trash can door you're all talking about? I have no such door on my unit.

Well...I learn something new every day. I thought that the CTS feature was on all of them. We have a hatch in our counter top that opens to permit access to the trash can. There is an exterior door that permits access to the trash for removal.

OK Thanks. I do have a storage compartment there with an exterior door, but no hatch in the counter top. Maybe FR forgot to cut the hatch in. The door has the 751 lock like all the others.

How do you access your trash can? Mine doesn't have the feature, but I was thinking through the hatch in top was the only way to put trash in.

If you look in AVid's signature block, right where the person is standing with his arms apart in the first picture under the awning, that is where the outside door is for the CTS. The trash "hatch" is in the corner of the cabinet structure, right behind where your head would be if you were sitting in the corner of the L shaped sofa. Very handy for throwing the empty beer bottle without getting off the couch!

Ken,
Do you want a trash hatch inside your trailer? You could order the hatch cover from Forest River (Rod Batts or the West Coast rep). When it's delivered, measure it and cut a hole in your countertop the size of the hatch cover. Drill a pilot hole somewhere inside where you will cut the opening, then use a sabre saw or roto saw to cut it. Then attach some boards to keep the hatch cover from falling in. Shouldn't be too hard to do. I think all countertop materials are made to be cut (to install the sink). Here is a photo of the one in our 29rlbs.

Thanks everyone. Since there is no hatch there I did not realize that compartment was suppose to be for trash. I use it to store my satellite dish. We keep the trash can under the sink. I will have to think about cutting into the counter top. I don't think I would be able to do a nice enough job.

Very interesting. I wonder what it is about the "West Coast" model that they delete the CTS?? Anyone know...just for knowledge sake!

I would have a cabinet installer cut it. They will be able to make it all look nice after.
Also if you look at DIY improvements and mods, there is several with reference to the CTS. As far as hindges on the door and different cool options for the garbage can area.

Will not work on a 30 RLBS. Storage cabinet with shelves right there. East coast and West coast Wicked Kitty's have differences. Same design but some different features. Also when I bought mine some of the small items listed in the brochure were not installed on my Wicked Kitty. Small, very small, worded paragraph on the back page says they can do that. Really stinks.
