Inverter/golf cart batteries/battery switch mod
First topic message reminder :
This is my inverter setup. I added a pair of golf cart batteries in addition to the factory group-24. I also added the battery selector switch so I can pull from either the OEM battery or the golf cart batteries or kill all the battery power for storage or repair work. I mounted the inverter on the basement ceiling out of the way. This inverter is a pure sine wave (600 watt) that I use to run my HD TV and the Hide-A-Bed air mattress.
If I run my golf cart batteries low I still have the OEM battery I can switch to and operate the slide and landing gear when it's time to break camp.
To charge the batteries while on shoreline, I just select both batteries on the switch and they will charge equally. Before hitching up, I switch back over to the golf cart batteries.
The battery box is for 6V batteries from PPL Motorhomes.com
The selector switch is Perko from a local RV dealer
The inverter is a WFCO from Best Converter.com as well as the Fuse for the Inverter

Portagie,
The item between the battery box and battery switch is the fuse for my inverter. The factory battery box is the one with the hole in the floor. The upper half of battery box is in the basement and the lower half hangs outside under the floor. The dual 6v battery box, I bought online from http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-converters/dual-battery-box.htm

I am surprised. I have no hole. Thank you for the info kind sir. Can you tell me what size fuse. I may want to add one also? I ordered my cat so I could use 6 volts. Well the request got lost somewhere. I can not put a top on mine because they run into the HYD pump. Maybe an option cut a hole in the floor and look for a battery box like that one.

The fuse came with my inverter. I'll look next time I'm out tinkering and see if it's marked.

Re: Inverter/golf cart batteries/battery switch mod
with 2 - 6v golf cart batteries installed would the wildcat oem charger/converter be sufficient to recharge the golf cart batteries?

Yes the OEM converter/charger will charge them. I highly recommend upgrading to a multistage converter/charger to make your batteries last longer.

My trailer came with a manuel for charger. I thingk the model they use is nothing to brag about but it works. At least mine does.

Re: Inverter/golf cart batteries/battery switch mod
Usually the cabling between the charger and converter is an issue too, especially if it's a long distance like mine (full length of trailer as converter is in the rear).
I use 2 external chargers - 1 Vector VEC1093DBD 40 Amp, and 1 BC40EWB (which is available at walmart). This eliminated the poor wiring, and I can charge my 460 AH battery bank at 80amps instead of much less. It also gives you the input rate on the display which helps determine the state of charge. 2 of these will require all the output of a 2000 watt genset.
Just another alternative if you need to charge a bank fast. Another nice thing, in the off season I use them to keep the batteries charged up in a rack in the garage where its warmer and more convenient to check on them.
