West Coast VS. East Coast

Post by Minty on 5/1/2010, 12:11 pm

Hello folks.
Kind of late to state this question but in regards to the Wildcat 32QBT what are the differences between the East and West coast additions. The only thing that I have seen is that the WC doesn't come with the garbage can .
In the negotiating process with the local dealer (before the $10g difference) he was trying to get my business by saying that the WC build better rigs. Other things that I have read is that the frames are all built by one plant and shipped West or east.. Any in sight would be good and does anyone have photos of either plant from a tour or something.....

we are down to wait of 6.5 - 8.5 weeks till new rig gets here..

I don't know specifically about the 32QBT, but comparing Oldelmer1's 29rlbs "east coast" and our 29rlbs "west coast" there are many differences. I am about to leave on our trip, so I can't elaborate at this time. Maybe Tom will chime in and give you more information.

The west coast frames are built about 25 miles from the west coast plant by Zieman. I don't think they ship them 2000 miles east to the Indiana plant. When I got my trailer in 2006, it had more heavy duty components than the east coast of the same model were getting. When I called Zieman, they said the frames they build for the larger trailers for the Wildcat are rated for 15k gross with the 6000# axles and assuming a 3000# pin weight (6+6+3=15). Forest River downrated them for their use to 11600#. My VIN sticker shows 5200# axles not 6000# that are installed. They won't fix it. I tried to get them to. The east coast units were only getting 5200# axles and 15". I can't say for sure what the current process is, but that is what I know about the west coast. This year's brochure still only specs 5200# axles. I know the west coast uses 6000# and 16" wheels/tires now across the board on the 29'+ models. I can't say the east does that.

As far as I can tell they are made the same. I looked at the website and they say they have 5200# axles but it does not state E or W edition. I had an option to upgrade to 16" load "E" rims and tires. What other things are made different . Hoping that it is not big stuff.. We were looking at a Sierra and they have three different version E,W and south. .Wish that they would say who what why and how.? also heard that the Oregon plant builds better trailers then Ind. Hope this is not true.. Look at me getting all worried , like an expecting father.. Just have to sit in the recliner cuddling the brochure..

The Sierra West and Sandpiper NW are made in the same plant as the Wildcat West. If you search the forum, you'll see a lot of people reporting tire failures with the 15" wheels/tire. I don't recall anyone complaining about the 16s.

In 2006, they had a west and east coast brochure, but I think they consolidated for consistency.
