Hello from OHIO

Post by rvmama on 4/18/2010, 2:58 pm

My sister and I just spent our first weekend (with our two German Shepherds) in our 2010 Wildcat 29RLBS. It was very....very....very cold in Ohio this past weekend!

Guess who was afraid to turn on the furnace! I read and re-read the manual, and still did not feel comfortable turning it on...After everyone stops laughing...anybody willing to put my fears to rest???? We loved it immensely and can't wait for next weekend. I'm looking forward to reading this Wildcat site.

to the forum. It is a great place to share ideas and thoughts, and to ask for assistance.

When you went through the PDI, hopefully they showed you how to light the furnace, and also had checked to see if it was working. Really all you need to do is be sure your gas is on, and air is out of the line. If you are cooking with the stove, that will be taken care of. There is no pilot. Next set the thermostat to furnace and adjust the temperature. Shortly, you should hear the fan come on with initially cold air, followed by warm air. When the temperature reaches the setting on the thermostat, it will shut off.

The furnace burns quite a bit of propane, and if you aren't connected to electricity, it will take a lot of battery power. You will find that most of us use electric heaters when we have electricity. I use a Sunbeam ceramic heater with thermostat and it works fine. If I don't have electricity, it is more clothes and blankets.

Enjoy

Welcome to the group! Glad you are here.

Why don't you like to use the furnace? We use an electric heater and the furnace almost never turns on, but we do use it. I set the electric heater on 68 and the furnace on 62. If it gets so cold the electric heater can't keep up, the furnace kicks on.

,,,,, On some of the models you just wish it would turn on. Sometimes dust and stuff gets up there and clogs it up. But with a new model like yours you would have been sweating buckets if you had of turned it on.

Please don't hesitate to ask if you have a concern or problem. Most of the appliances have built in safety features , but it never hurts to be cautious if your unsure. I'd get a local experienced RV'r to go back through the unit with you , take your time and learn all about it. Or do it like a new computer, just keep hitting buttons til something happens.....
