Shocks

Post by bags24 on 4/28/2008, 8:41 am

With reading post here on this site and several on the old site about the stiffness in the ride of the cats during towing. I started to think why couldnt i weld brackets to the rears and the frame and install a set of shocks?
Any thoughts ?
Why wouldnt the Factory think of this?
Does ant brand come with shocks?
Just a thought

Since no one rides in it, I do not see the need for shocks on the 'cat. True, you will improve the ride (in the 'cat) somewhat, but to what end?

Shocks

Post by bags24 on 4/28/2008, 9:39 am

Well i read alot of posts on the equa flex and other systems, and it would be cheaper to get under there and do a little fabricating than to pay for some of those systems.
The cats with the rear Kitchens were the ones i was thinking of the most.
We dont make the long jorneys as some others but again just kicking around a thought.

The 160.00 EZ Flex would be cheaper than a set of 4 Shocks. AT least $200 bucks for a set of 4 decent shocks. Yea you could get a set of cheapo's. But I'd seriously go with the EZ Flex's price range and Heavy Duty connections Vs. a set of shocks.

even a set of shocks for 30 bucks would still run you 120 bucks, 40 more and you've got a EZflex system. Which I do intend to get .....

We just took our 29RLBS out thiss weekend after I had installed the EZ-Flex two weeks ago and I'll I can say is WOW!! We rolled over two large overpass expansion joints that used to cause the trailer to move from side to side and this time we could barely feel that we went over the darn things. Best $160 I ever spent and since I posted, the recently installed Ultra-Fab stabilizers were another addition well spent cheers cheers cheers

I thought about the shock upgrade route a few years ago. Never got around it and than along came the Equa-Flex and EZ-Flex. I went with the Equa-Flex route and don't regret it.

HERE IS A LINK I had found for retrofit shock kits for travel trailers.

Not sure on the pricing, I've never looked into it that far.

I just had a conversation with our local dealership a couple of weeks ago about adding shocks to the 5er. I was told that it's a fairly easy mod, but since I already had the equa-flex on the axles, adding shocks would be redundant.

I had shocks put on my Wicked Kitty as good will jester. Lots of problems with Wicked Kitty so Forest River ate the cost. Would not have a trailer without them.

I also plan to put on the EZ-Flex. I have a 30RLBS. Does anybody know which EZ-Flex to use.

Dave - The Ultra-Fab stabilizers are found and installed where?
