Has anyone added shocks to their 5er?

Post by dnphutch on Sun Apr 18, 2010 6:20 am

I'm looking at adding shocks to both axles on my '31 bunkhouse. I've researched and found that Monroe has a bolt/weld-on kit, but I'm wondering if the shocks help out that much? I'm planning on the doing the equaflex mod as well. I'm in the military stationed in Fairbanks, AK and will be moving to Tenn. this summer plus we camp a lot. Anyone that hasn't run the ALCAN, its rough!! I'm looking at improving the ride and longevity for my camper. Any advice is appreciated.

I did and they do help keep the bounce out of the trailer. Stuff rides better on the shelves. I welded it to the frame, but you can get a bolt-on kit.

I added them to my TT. The most interesting change they made was to the ride in the TV. I can no longer feel expansion joints or small pot holes when the trailer hits them. It also doesn't bob around when your pulling through campgrounds with big pot holes or speed bumps. The trailer stays much more stable going down the freeway too. A great mod IMO.
