For the Dirt Bike Guys

Post by MountainMan on Sat Apr 17, 2010 1:31 pm

Here is a video of myself and a buddy riding a little singletrack in the mountains of WV yesterday.

I'm in front on the green bike KX250 and my buddy is on the orange bike KTM300 with the helment cam.

This was my first ride back after a 16 month lay-off following two shoulder surgeries on the left shoulder. It was great to be back in the saddle again after such a long absence.

Nice, reminds me of how much I miss my years on the Colorado enduro circuit. I am amazed at how steady the helmet cam is. Nice job

The new small mounted helmet cams are really nice these days. with good video quality. I've seen some nice one's for less than 200 bucks. I gotta get me one soon.

Do they make one that automatically shuts off when it goes horizontal? I don't want to video my falls.

"Go Pro" is probably the most popular little helment cam right now. They even have a wide screen HD model.

Here is more of our ride the same day. You can see what happens when they go "horizontal" at the end of the video.

It's kinda like a video game view. Pretty cool. I wonder if they have a waterproof model.

I don't ride dirt bikes, but my neighbor does that crazy freestyle stuff (Dew tour and X-games). It'd be pretty need to see the back-flip and other crazy tricks from a helmet cam.

That makes for a short career in dirt bikes. They've taken that so far so quick, that when you fall your usually falling from a couple stories high. INSANE.

I've seen some helmet cam flips, I'll see if I can look them up.

They have a freestyle practice area that a lot of the east coast guys use when they're in the area. Those guys are nutz.

I rode with some canadians the last time I rode up there and this one guy should have been in the Xgames, this guy hit a 3' dia log laying across the trail at 40/50 mph and sailed over it like a butterfly. I just knew he was about to die. But thats how AA riders get to that class I guess. Theyre like a ninja warrior in the woods, they just pass you and disappear.

You can't really get a feel for the freestyle stuff until you see in it person. TV or Video just doesn't do it justice. Those guys are totally nutz!

This old dude wants nothing to do with freestyle! I'm totally satisfied with the adreneline rush of flying through the trees and bouncing off boulders, logs and ruts.

Add in that I'm now basically riding with one arm and it really gets my heart pounding.

My Docs said my riding days were over. I think I'll send them the videos.

That's why I started with stand up watercraft. If you fall, it just on the water. The only problem is you can only do it when the water isn't going to give you hypothermia. I did have a 45mph spill though that I literally skipped across the water like a flat stone. That one hurt.

The small ramps are enough scare the crap out of me .....
