Linoleum Floor

Post by Cozzens on 4/10/2010, 1:25 am

Enjoying my 2010 31TS on my first camping weekend until this morning. When I got up this morning the heat was on and the Linoleum in the kitchen area was lifted. It was like one of those moon walks at a fair. Any one else ever had that happen. Looks like we are heading back to the dealer when we get home

Some linoleum flooring is glued only around the edges. So, if a heat register was cut into the middle of it and the flooring around it wasn't sealed, the furnace could blow heat under it.
Could be all you need is to glue the flooring down around the register.

When we had our unit back at the factory for some work, I asked a question about the flooring. They told me it is not glued down. They went in through the register and removed some stuff that was creating a bump under the floor. I have also had the registers out to replace them with ones that are capable of closing, and can see it is not glued. I would guess that for some reason air is going up around the register and getting under the flooring. My registers are screwed down and I think that would keep the air from going under the flooring, unless there is an air leak somewhere else?

Maybe try some foil tape, remove the vent, cut the foil tape so it will cover just the edge of the linoleum, then fold it down and lap it over and into the duck.

Thanks but the entire area from the door to the carpet is floating. Not just around the vent area. The vent is in the carpet area. About a 5x4 section. Seeing that I have only had it 4 weeks. My dealer should be able to take care of it. Its just a pain bringing it back for service.

They probably forgot to cut out for a vent in the linoleum area...

Spoke to the dealer today. They don't glue the floor down. Its a floating floor . It has to be or it would crack with temp changes and rv towing. They offered to tighten it up a bit but its the way it is for a reason. Today sitting at home in the driveway nothing is wrong with it. It gives me a good feeling to know that its "normal"
Thank you to everyone who posted a reply! Everything else in the cat is wonderful so far.

my floor in my previous 5er went bad so I had to change it last spring. Had the furnace on while I was changing it and when I laid it out and covered up the vents I experienced the same "floating floor" feeling until I cut the vent openings.

I'm with the other guys. Check around thoroughly to make sure they didn't cover up another vent somewhere. Doesn't sound right to me.

Our heater created another problem with our lino. The floor is very warm when the heater is on. We like throw rugs and made the mistake of leaving them in place on the lino one nite. The throw rugs have nonslip rubber on the under side. The rugs that were over the ducting should have been moved. The bottom of the rugs and the lino was so hot you could not touch it. You needed shoes to walk on the lino. Will not do that again. Move the rugs every time we use the heater now.

I used to install vinyl floors in homes. If your floor is lifting when the heat is on, then their has to be a vent or something not cut out. A free floating floor does lay nice and flat. It would take most of the air pressure from the furnace fan to lift it.
As far as not using glue as it will crack, All the older trailers as a whole were glued down. Not all are cracked. Newer vinly floors are generally a lesser mil than old ones. Thinner.
The new perimeter glue only floors like we have now, have a backing that will shrink after the roll is opened. Usually glued or stapled around the edge.
Seem to work fine. I'm just not a big fan. If ever a hole, it will shrink apart and look bad.
