Tire Crack

Post by oldelmer1 on 3/31/2010, 10:04 am

As I have stated before, I always put on Turtle Wax F21 UV Protectant on my tires to help with the UV rays. Well, last month I put some on the inside of the tires and on the front drivers side, this is what I found:

So, I have changed out this tire with my never used spare.

You all should take a really close look at your tires

Yikes, that looks pretty nasty. I'll be checking mine. Kinda reminds you of the valve stem cracks.

Tom,

We're doing about 6K miles after the season ends here in NC and my number one priority is to put new sneakers on the Cat. Gonna upgrade the rims to 16" and go with Michelin E's.

Our Cats are the same age and its hard to believe but my OEM tires have as much mileage on them as they do and haven't given me any trouble at all. Must have been the day at the factory when all the planets and stars were aligned when they built the undercarriage. It is absolutely square, plumb and tight. Gotta love it when something goes right.

I did look at the rest of the tires, and they look ok. We are going to Kutztown PA on Monday, just a 2 hour trip. So its time to get everything ready.

oldelmer1 ,Two weeks ago before i left on a 12 day trip i found 2 tires the same way. (cracks on the outside) I took off to the tire store and while i was there they checked the other 2 tires inside and outside, i would have never have that to check the inside. and they were ok. luckly i only had to buy 2 tires. So for those that only see the outside of the tire take oldelmer1 advice and look on the inside of the tire too.

Where these original tires? I have a 06 RLBS also, replaced the original last spring, over 40K miles, still had good tread, just did not have a good feeling so replaced.

The 2 i replaced had i guess around 4000 miles on them, i tried to keep them covered. they are the original tires. I bought my cat in feb. 06. I was shocked that 2 were weather cracked. I have since bought 2 dual tire covers. My dogs love to shred the single covers but have not messed with the duals. I also had alot of tread left on the 2 i replaced.

Yes, they were the original tires, dated 3805. I'm really surprised that the crack was on the inside and not the outside.

I think we figures out we have approx 16K miles on them.

Hi Steve,

Nothing really going on, we've never been there before, so we thought we'd spend a few days there. Staying at Pine Hill RV Park. Any comments on the place?
