Identify this photo
First topic message reminder :
Let's try something fun. Everyone is going to be heading out camping soon, I thought we could post photos and have people guess where they are. Here's the ground rules (this is a work in progress, so expect changes):
1. I'll post one photo (or multiple photos of one location) at a time. After it is identified, we can start over with a new one. I'll start us off with this one; after it is identified someone else can post another photo.
2. The photo must have a unique characteristic so it can be identified. A photos of a camp site in the pines is nice, but it has to have something unique to identify it from all the other camp site photos.
3. Once a photo is identified, we will start again.

Interstate 40 bridge (Hernando Desoto) crossing the Mississippi River heading into Memphis TN??? I believe I-40 is the highway that passes right by the Pyramid in Memphis.

Re: Identify this photo
Memphis!! Of course. I was thinking of Cairo, IL with Mississippi River and Ohio River bridges. The southern area of Illinois is called "Little Egypt." I was too far north - didn't think about Memphis at all. Good job, Richard.
Yep - we've been over that bridge in Memphis a few times.

Re: Identify this photo
Oh man, I didn't even think of the two bridges down by Cairo, IL. Now I have doubts about my own guess.
BTW, if anyone is considering crossing the Mississippi River on the Hwy 60 bridge near Cairo, IL please be sure to have a fresh change of underwear with you just in case you meet an 18 wheeler coming in the opposite direction. That two lane bridge was the scariest bridge I've ever had to cross with our "cat". We won't be crossing that bridge again. In the photo below look at where the rear wheels of the truck are, left wheel at the yellow line, right wheels at the curb. The photo would have been sharper but DW's hands were shaking a bit too much.

While moving from Ft. Lauderdale to Walnut Grove, MO, I was driving the moving truck across those bridges. I smacked mirrors with a semi while crossing the Ohio.

Re: Identify this photo
The old bridge in Paducah was scary, too. First time I ever crossed it, I was sitting on the floor - just couldn't look. Scruffy lived in Southern Illinois when he was a kid, I think he might have crossed the old bridge, but not with a trailer on the back and mirrors sticking out from the front fenders of the car. Our trailer at that time was the little Fleetwing that's in our signature. They built I-24, with a big new bridge that we crossed many times on our way to Land Between The Lakes. Ah...... those were the days.

Looks like every other mountain out west with radio towers. Hmmm, next to an interstate; possibly I-10 or I-40. How about Gage Gap next to I-10 near Deming, NM?

No, not near Deming, NM. This mountain has a story or legend.

Re: Identify this photo
Correct, Gary.
I had one more clue in case anyone needed it. "A lot of people will stay nearby tonight" - from all the road signs that advertised "Tucumcari tonight" to the travelers on Rt 66.
Extra points if you know the legend.

A less popular legend regarding Tucumcari Mtn suggests the name came from Angilicizing a comanche word which meant to lie and wait. The butte was known to be a Comanche look out.
