considering 31ts or 28rkbs
Hi,
As a first time fiver , lots of previous camper exp.,, nervous about finding diesel stations, and getting lost etc,,trying to deal with turning around etc,,,is there a noticable difference as the 28 is about 5 feet shorter. Also planning on a lp generator ,,should I consider solar as well,,,any other comments welcome as to must have options. I like the 31ts because of the fireplace and tv setup,,but prefer the rest of the floorplan of the 28,,non bedroom slide,,better kitchen layout.
thanks in advance

Solar is good if you are planning on keeping the Cat outside. I store mine inside, so it wouldn't do me much good. I just start the Genny for an hour or 2 to charge up the battery. I am not a rear kitchen fan, just a personal preference. We usually camp where our view is out the back of the camper and the rear kitchen doesn't allow you the rear view like the 31TS would. Again, this is just my personal opinion.

Welcome dirtfarmer!!
We have a 2007 28RK and love it! We like the extra storage and counter space provided by a rear kitchen floor plan, mainly because we like to cook and entertain when we travel. The rear kitchen makes it easier to do that.
I think the 31TS has a very cool floor plan, but the lack of kitchen space or kitchen storage keeps us from falling in love with it.
Some here have their gennie set up in the basement compartment. We chose to go the route of twin Honda 2000's: They're portable. They can be stored in the basement or the truck bed. And, they can be used for other purposes other than running the Cat during dry camping. The versatility of portable gennies Vs stationary ones sold us.
Something to keep in mind regarding an LP gennie; you'll go through 2 - 30# bottles alot faster when you run the LP gennie AND furnace, fridge, + cooking while dry camping. A solar panel will help charge your batteries, but will not offset your gennie usage as much as you might think.

Slow down, After a couple of trips, you'll be fine. Diesel pumps are more available than one thinks. Most fuel stops have signs on the highway and they will say diesel if they have it.
Garmin GPS will help your directions. Not perfect but a big help.
After you get used to your new fiver, you'll find it turns easier and you may back in spots better than before.

The biggest problem with diesel in Canada is that most stations don't post the price of diesel on their signs. Flying J does, though, and they usually have the best prices. Interesting how in the US, diesel costs more then regular gasoline, but in Canada it is usually less than regular. Diesel still costs more in Canada.

We love our 31TS! By far the most livable floorplan for our needs. We didn't want a large kitchen as we prefer to cook outside and don't want to stink up the trailer with food smells.

Get the biggest camper you can afford and you'll be happy with.
Get a small one and the first night you'll be wishing you'd bought the bigger one.
I have 32' and its not a problem to put it in some very tight places.
Welcome to the forum,
I got me some of those Red Canadian mittens, to bad its 70* and to hot to wear them down here in GA.

Re: considering 31ts or 28rkbs
Since the bigger kitchen is important to you, you'd probably be happier with the 28rk** but personally, I'd get the 28rkbs. We were going to get the 27rl until we saw the 29rlbs. Same size, same floorplan downstairs. We're glad we decided on the 29rlbs because of the extra bedroom storage.
If you are going to boondock for more than a few days, you'll need a generator or solar panels.

We have the 28RKBS and are extremely happy with it. It has the large kitchen and the living area is very comfortable with the two sofas across from each other. We are very happy with the layout. It works well for us. I would definitely go with the bedroom slide. We liked the fully enclosed bathroom that 28RKSB offers but you give up a lot of closet and drawer space. Everyone has different needs and only you will be able to decide which will work best for your needs. There's alaways going to be a little give and take. I don't think the perfect camper exists. There's always something you'll want to change. Good luck with your choice. Either way you'll be a winner because you'll have a new Wildcat!!!

Re: considering 31ts or 28rkbs
We have had our 31TS for almost six months and are very pleased with it. The layout works for us and the bath and bedroom privacy really meets our needs. The openness of the living room makes entertaining visitors very comfortable. Overall we are extremely please with the unit and would recommend to those with similar likes and needs for a camper like this.

Re: considering 31ts or 28rkbs
If FR would incorporate either a wrap-around counter or an island into the 31TS kitchen, we'd trade in a heart-beat. I think that would most likely involve incorporating a slide into the kitchen area. But, since there's already a slide on that side to incorporate the ... Couch (?), they COULD make it longer to include the kitchen. Big slides already exsist, just ask MOO.
Are you watching this thread FR? If you EVER come out with a 31TSKS (kitchen slide), I want royalties!!

I agree, the lack of counter is the main reason we didn't go with the 31ts.

Just an added bonus, actually, that huge slide scares the crap out of me!!!! I just don't see how they can have any wall support while driving down the road. They've had it out for 2 years now and I have yet to talk to a dealer that has had to work on one.

I've seen these used on the inside to support a closed slide also. Don't know if something like this would give you extra peace of mind or not.
I honestly can't imagine too many things that will support the weight of a slide out the size of yours. But, maybe the mechanism is beefier just for that reason.

Any issue with you kitchen floor? My first time out in my 3TS with the heat on the floor lifted like a moonwalk at a fair. Dealer says its normal but very strange

Well, even though the original post is a bit old, I will have to agree with the above. We looked at the 31TS also, and liked it okay, but it was a bit over the weight limit I was looking at. And after looking more, I think we made the right decision here as well. We absolutely love this unit, and are very glad we ended up going with it.
