What's with the links?

Post by TC on 2/23/2010, 8:14 am

Suddenly, I'm seeing links to advertisers popping up all over the forum!

truck
insurance
internet

See what I mean??

O.K., maybe it's on my computer only since I'm seeing it over on another RV web site too.

Nothing over here.

I hope you haven't gotten some malware. Got a good malware detector/remover?

ALL the links direct me to something called Play Sushi. I also get it over on RV.net

I've just spent over an hour cleaning my computer 7 ways to sunday and none of my Spyware/Malware/Virus softwares come up with anything. I even put my PC into safe mode and did it all again...nothing.

did you try scan for it with combofix?

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

if it won't run, rename it to something.exe. Also try in safe mode if it won't run in normal mode. If the malware is smart, it's been coded to detect the process of combofix and won't let it run.

You should turn off your other virus software. It will warn you.

It will run in a "DOS" type mode.

It should scan 51 or so stages . It will show what it deletes when it stops the intruder if you have one.

Same problem here. Something has changed in the computer tech knowledge. I used to not get all these pop-ups, etc. I will try that combo program. I have tried everything else it seems like.

The only time I have links show up is when I'm not signed in.

I had a malware a couple years ago that I just couldn't remove. I looked it up in google, and a lot of people had the same malware - and there were all sorts of complicated solutions. I'm not computer savvy enough to figure out those complicated things, so asked my son for help. He suggested www.malwarebytes.org - that removed the malware, and I've been using it ever since. The version I use is free, and I can get updates. They also have a version you can pay for, but I haven't needed it.

OMG...what a friggin' mess!!!

It's malware alright, and malwarebytes didn't catch it. In fact, none of my software, owned or borrowed couldn't find it. I had to load Hi Jack This and it found it right away. It imbedded itself in the program files. When I deleted it and restarted the computer, I lost EVERYTHING!! No firewall, no internet, no restore, no start-up devices...nothing. I finally figured out how to enabled all the start-up stuff again. At At that point, I could at least get the restore to work again. But...now I have the malware file back in my machine after restoring to a save point three days ago.

Here I go again...

Anxious to hear the fix! I've tried Malwarebytes, I run AVG and i've tried another virus cleaner and I run smooth, but I still think there is something that these are missing.

I caught one the other week, I had been using norton for a long time and thought I'd try mcafee, when i installed mcafee within the next day something came in turned mcafee off and my browser and took over.
I reloaded norton and it took care of it. I had to do a little behind the scene repair but nothing to bad.

I ran Hi Jack This, and clicked on everything that had a BHO on it.

http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/

You can click on each one of the program files and get the info on it. Decide what goes and what stays. I was really impressed!
