self sealing tires?

Post by pollittax on 2/21/2010, 2:53 am

after looking thru old posts about tires and BLOWOUTS, i started thinking about self sealing tires, or tire slime. it seams to me nails and screws are unavoidable, but what about a little extra insurance for thoose tires? has anyone used slime in their tires, good luck or bad luck?

Many tire shops don't like slime, it's a pain when fixing a tire. Trying to clean up the rim so the bead will hold after a repair.

Ditto to f150k, you're not going to avoid a blowout anyway (I've had 3 or 4 blowouts on my 5th and on my semi...they can be catastrophic). A nail or screw should be removed and repaired properly for safe driving. Check your tread regularly for foreign objects and don't pull them out unless you are prepared for a repair in case they leak badly. Spray a little soapy water (or spit) on the hole before and after and check for bubbles.
