First topic message reminder :

I am interested in a Wildcat 29rlbs,what I would like to know is can you use the bathroom and the bedroom with the slides in? I like this floorplan and since I plan to boondock a lot the large holding tanks are nice and also the heated tanks, the double pane windows are nice too . I like to camp all year,,I like to see it snow. I have learned a lot by reading this forum so far.

I plan on putting a hitch on back of trailer, bolt on or weld one on,that will hold 500lb,,I would never put anything on bumper of a trailer, put the generators there. just wondering what happens to generators when it rains, mine costs to much to have them get wet. I plan to be legal sometime with truck, maybe not all the time, so thats why I was asking about the weight in the rear of trailer, I need to be about 300lb less on that pin weight. Thats what I need to know. Some people like Fords and some like Chevys. I know my truck GVWR is 9200lb and a Ford GVWR is 8800lb

Stock 2006 F350 super cab has a gvwr of 11,400lb. The same year F250 super cab is 10,000lb.
Our truck has the camper special package, but the door jam sticker shows 11,400lbs.

As far as your 90 gallon fuel tank goes, nothing says you HAVE to fill it all the way up.

Diesel weighs about 7 pounds per gallon, so if you only fill your tank up 1/2 way, you will still have plenty of fuel and weigh 315 pounds less.

Spock, it sound like your concerned about being legal sometime. You do not need to drive on truck scales on the highway. Some trips you might be loaded heavier than others. I would be concerned about loading too much on the back of this unit. Our four bikes flex like a trampoline. Yes we will fix for this year. Either Ford or GM 3/4 ton will pull this. I don't think you should bother tring to hook up someones fiver, load it, and scale it. If you are a touch heavy on the pin, invest in air bags. Lift the truck a little and that alone will transfer some of the weight.

oh I know I do not drive on highway scales, I just want to be sometime legal, if I had a 3500 I would not have a problem, but anyway I have learned a lot on here and when I get my Cat and work on it some then just fun and see how long I can stay gone. It would be nice to put my battery box in truck, but that will have to wait for another truck. Thanks again to all that have helped me.

I have owned a lot of RV's and can not see why anyone would want their Battery Box for the RV in the truck. The truck would have to be at the camp site to access the power also for recharging. Just my 2 cents worth.

I like to boondock as much as I can, so when I am in camp I don!t like to run generators, people complain a lot, even when its a Honda. I keep my 4 6volt batteries in a box with a 3000 watt inverter and when I get out and sightsee thats when I charge the batteries with a 40amp charger, just crank up a Honda and plug in the charger and in about 3 hours batteries is charged up and ready again. When I come back to camp at night I can have all the power I want and never run a generator,I like to sleep late in the morning and I hate to hear a generator crank up, I can!t afford solar, but 2 Honda!s work for me. I have them bolted down so they can!t move and they won!t walk off and under a cap and also a ten gallon extended run fuel tank. I have the generators exhaust out the bed of truck, I found out when the generators are on I have to put tailgate down. I ran my shore cable under the trailer so that it comes out under the tongue and I can run the airconditioner when I travel down the road so when I stop at Walmart or rest area I will be cool at night. When I am at home and a storm comes up I always pray the power will get knocked off so we can sleep in camper, how DW has put up with me for so long is a mystery to me. Camping is fun

Spock,

For what it's worth, I would not carry that much gas. Knowing that I have to stop ever so often for breaks, I would just build a gas stop in now and again and not be concerned about carrying all that extra weight. Even if you carried 50 gallons extra, that's at least 500 miles just on the auxilliary tank; which is further than most people pulling a full sized 5er drives in a day.

Some one earlier suggested airbags on the back axle. I also recommend it. We've found the the more loaded the truck bed is, the better everything rides. And even though the truck can handle the weight with no problem, the extra support of the air bags keeps the truck bed level, which in turn will keep your ride smoother.

I would shy away from filling that fresh water tank before traveling. We usually carry just a few gallons of fresh water, mainly to wash hands and use the toilet. Anything else is excess weight.

As for the hitch on the back of the Cat, be sure to weld NOT bolt a 2" hitch on to the Cat's frame. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

This is what I do. If I need to have a full tank of fresh water I stop just before I get to where I am going and fill up.
I agree with TC on filling the fresh water tank.

air bags are nice and I will get some one day but they don!t help with what I can carry , pin weight that is. I can pull the trailer with no problem, its about the pin weight, thats why I need to fill up the fresh water tank. If I should hit someone the last thing I want anyone to say is you are over loaded. I talked to a saleslady on Monday and told her what I wanted and she surprised me, she wanted to know about pin weight and what I could pull, seems she had heard about someone in South Carolina who was way overloaded and he had to hire a wecker to move the fifth wheel, not because it was messed up because the Highway Patrol would not let him move it with his truck. As far as the fuel I just hate to stop at gas stations,it sometimes takes a hour or more just to get fuel, some stations don!t have a credit reader at the pump, at the right pump I get 5% off the price of diesel or gas for that matter. I am retired but DW is not and sometimes I have to get there fast, from NC to Yellowstone is a ways, oh yes I always drive 55. I will remember to weld hitch on

Spock, Welcome to the forum, you have been asking about pin weight. In order to help, could you provide the year and model of your truck. Also do you know the loaded weight of your truck with all of the extras including DW. You can then determine the remaining cargo weight. Knowing these numbers you can then look at hitch weights. Remember the hitch weights provided by the manufacturer are unloaded dry hitch weights and these are frequently wrong. The 29rlbs is 1330 lbs, it is not uncommon to add an additional 400 lbs to this weight when loaded.

This is how to make a signature:

http://www.wildcatcamperforum.com/meet-the-members-f2/adding-signature-easy-instructions-t2040.htm

It really is easy, and you can make it short and simple, or long and detailed. Our signature is at the bottom of this post. It includes our names, a link to photos of our do-it-yourself improvements, some details about our current rig, and a photo of our first. If you put a photo in your signature, please try to keep it on the small side.
