New Truck
First topic message reminder :
After looking at the prices of trucks I didn’t think I’d be buying a new one. Instead I thought I’d probably just keep the old gas sucking ‘02 Dodge with the 8.0 liter V10. I did go out pricing new trucks anyway.
Surprise, surprise, a Dodge dealer quoted me a good price and a fair trade-in on a Crew Cab longbed 4X4 diesel. It still cost more than I wanted to pay for a truck but I began to think that maybe I could buy a new one.
Then I went to the Ford dealer and man, were they ever wanting to sell trucks. What a deal they offered me. We qualified for $5250.00 in rebates and incentives from Ford Motor Company. On top of that, the dealer was willing to give me a thousand dollars OVER full retail value based on Kelly Blue Book for my ’02 Dodge. I guess Ford is wanting to get the 2010’s off the lots to make room for the new 2011’s that will soon be coming out. Regardless, we’re now the proud owners of a new Ford F-250 XL shortbed, 4X4 Crew Cab with the 6.4 diesel. The deal that was offered was waaaaaay too good to pass up. I am accepting donations to pay the sales tax on the truck.
Our new truck.

Your welcome.
You should be able to just slide it without the camper attached. Once I figured out mine, I can just sit in the garage and slide it back and forth pushing with my foot. I usually do this after I spray CRC all over the slides.

Sit in the garage?? No my friend, the queen of our house gets the garage. The court jester keeps his truck in the driveway.

Re: New Truck
Normally I don’t read the owners manual that come with new vehicles, but I had to for the new truck just to figure out the satellite radio. While thumbing through the manual I discovered a feature I didn’t know I had on the truck, auto locking doors. The feature only needed to be activated to work. Other vehicles we’ve owned had the autolock feature and over the years we got a bit lazy about making sure the doors were locked. With the new truck, we would arrive at a destination and realize we had forgotten to lock the doors. Forgetting things is a way of life at my age. Now, with the feature activated, the doors automatically lock when the truck exceeds 12 MPH. A simple thing, but I like it.

Re: New Truck
I find the autolock annoying when you stop and the doors are locked (as a passenger). The wife's Expy has that feature. She got mad when I turned it off, so it is back on now. It'd be nice if it unlocked when you put it in park.

Re: New Truck
Our doors lock automatically. The front doors will both open with a pull of the handle - just as they would if they weren't locked. The back doors don't unlock unless the driver unlocks them...... or .... back seat passengers can unlock them by pulling the lock-tab (in the door frame at the bottom of the window). Maybe a little annoyance - I seldom sit back there.

Re: New Truck
We took the new truck when we went to visit our DD and SIL in Columbia, MO. It is a 260 mile round trip and the truck averaged 18.4 MPG. I can live with that. The old Dodge V10 could only get 12.5 on a good day. I can't wait to see what kind of mileage I'll get when towing.

Re: New Truck
What rear-end do you have on that? My truck does not even get close to that on the highway (maybe 14 - 15), but then again, I have the LWB dually with the 4.10 rear-end and I weigh 9,000 pounds!

Re: New Truck
The real question is ...how fast were you going? If Richard went 55-60mph. 18 mpg is easy. If you get to the 65-70mph range, 14-15mpg is realistic. Wait until that regen kicks in....

Re: New Truck
My truck has a 3.55 rear end. The drive was all interstate and I had the cruise control set at 66 MPH. For 60 miles of the trip going through St. Louis County the cruise was set at 60 MPH. The odometer now had 603 miles on it.

Re: New Truck
3.55 is better for fuel economy, not that great to get a load moving, BUT that 6.4 makes gobs of tourque. i bet it will tow great. remember4X4 low will back that cat in on a tough site real easy. by the way a friend has locked his keys in 2 times in his 2010, you might consider a frame key {spare} that auto lock works to well for him . real nice new ride!

Richard, Did you get a DVD with your new truck? We got one with ours, it is a super DVD on the Super Duty, great if you have never had a diesel.

I'm surprised it has a 3:55 with 4x4, Mines 3:73 with 4x4 and gets around 18 empty.
your trucks probably gonna get closer to 20 mpg when you get a few more miles on it.

Yes, they still give you a DVD with the new truck. It was very informative for a diesel rookie like me.

Good idea about the spare key. That reminded me that when I traded in the old Dodge an extra key was still on the frame in a hidden spot. I wonder if anyone will ever find it.

The 3.55 rear end was a concern of mine when I was looking at the Ford trucks online. I wanted a 3.73 or 4.10 rear end. What I discovered was that on a 2010 F250 with the 6.4 liter diesel engine, automatic transmission, and 4X4, those two rear ends aren’t available. However, you can get those rear ends with the V8 gas engine. Why I don’t know, perhaps it is a fuel mileage issue. The two axles available for the diesel are a 3.31 and the 3.55. I wonder if this will change when the new diesel engine is introduced for 2011?
I love being able to research vehicles online, especially being able to see the vehicle’s window sticker if you have a VIN number. When I decided to see if I could swing a deal on a new truck I had two specific Dodge trucks I wanted to look at and two specific Ford trucks I wanted to look at. All four were in the same price range. The Ford dealer got my business based solely on a much better deal.

Re: New Truck
It also has to do with the wheel base and the number of tires. On the F350 LWB 4x4 dually, you can only get 3.73 and 4.10, if you want 3.55, you have to go to SRW.

Re: New Truck
In the 2011, it's the same deal. No 3.73 in the SRW trucks.
As far as the locked keys inside the cab. I installed a keypad and it's saved me quite a few times. I had to get a GEM module off an Excursion to hard wire it. The wireless ones wouldn't work if the truck was running. The newer trucks probably have the ability to easily add one. I know the 2002+ trucks could use the stick-on wireless keypads with the truck running. Not the 2000s.

I have a 3:73 gear. I get 20 to 21 mpg empty, 16 mpg around townand 13 to 14 mpg towing.
If my Keys are in the switch it will not lock unless I enter a code on the drivers door key pad.

I did not lock the keys inside, but the truck has sat all winter and I could not remember the code. My age showing, DW said I told you to write that code down, I called the Dealer. So yes now I have the code for the key pad on file several places, just hope when I need it I remember where I wrote it down.

You can reprogram the key code to something you can remember better, I did. The master code will still work.
