Strange Things on the Road
I think the photo below is of the strangest thing we’ve seen while traveling. It was a stand at a flea market selling monuments. Most of the monuments already had names and dates on them. Who buys a used grave marker? It was a weekday so the flea market was closed, otherwise I would have stopped to get more info about used tombstones. We saw this while driving to a campground near Asheville, NC.
Anyone else seen strange things in their travels?

Interesting picture.
The engraving on tombstones can be ground down and new engraving can be put on. Like sanding a hardwood floor and refinishing it. Each time, of course, it gets a little thinner.
What we wonder about is where these stones came from.... why and how? Were they stolen? Traded in on bigger models? Pawned?

I would think what you are seeing is simply different examples; Sizes and styles of print available on the headstones.
Advertising with examples of what is offered. Pictures are worth a thousand words even if it is a little creepy.
