I've never seen one other than in captivity. Beautiful birds! Where were you?
BTW - My first camping trip was in a Pop-up Palomino like the one in your pic. It was my parents and we camped in the Smokey Mountains. I loved in then and I still love it today.

Re: Old Campers and tow vehicles
Our first camper. Wife hated it. I loved it for trout fishing in the mountains. Anywhere I could get my 4wd truck, I had camp.

'96 Skamper / '00 Chevy / Early 90's Huffy with waders hanging on the mirror.
Our first 5er and still own it.

'90 Praire Schooner with two of my favorite toys at our camp in the mountains.

Simply take a digital photo of your old photo. Set your digital camera to its macro setting and get down close to the old photo. You may have to get at just the right angle to capture the proper lighting. I've done it many times and they've turned out pretty good.

Re: Old Campers and tow vehicles
Couldn't find pictures of our pop-ups (we had two), or our first TT, so we start with our Jayco truck camper...

Kind of out-grew the truck camper with kids, so moved onto a 1991 Sportmens TT. Towed with a 1993 Bronco for a while, then a 1999 Chev conversion van.

Here's one from our last trip with the Sportmens, we bought our WC shortly after. Camping at Gulf State Park at Gulf Shores AL.

Scott, Put your old photos on the scanner and import them to your computer, or do as Mtman said.

Re: Old Campers and tow vehicles
Wow, some neat pics. We started out with a tent, coleman stove and grub box. Went to some fine trout streams in NV and UT for years in a '73 Chevy K-10.

We then graduated to a '79 18' Layton TT with same truck, but lost custody of that and most of my possesions, kept the truck, in 1982, but thats another story for another time.
Kathy, 2nd wife, and I then bought a 16' Viking Pop-up which we pulled for 16 years with same and different trucks. Threw a couple of Broncos in there, one of which tried to kill us, but that too is another story for a different time.

Sorry for the quality but old pics are just that, old. I used a scanner to convert to digital. And oh yeah, it goes without saying, "Please tell me, f150k, that you still have the '55 Nomad!"

Re: Old Campers and tow vehicles
Talk about memories, here is a photo of our 1929 Ford Roadster ( modified ) pulling a Coleman Williamsburg camper. The picture was taken in the Tetons, would you believe we traveled as a family of 5 in that car. My wife and I often wondered what we put the kids through. Our Daughter years later wrote an article titled " Our Usual, Unusual Vacations " she told about camping with the family and their trips in the model A. She says she has over 25,000 miles in that rumble seat, as you can see I made a top for the rumble seat. Camping with the family is one of our greatest memories.

Back country of Maine,,,, We used to travel light and fast and all on nickles and dimes.
We covered a lot of ground in the shortest time possible back then. Saw a lot we wouldn't have seen otherwise.

Re: Old Campers and tow vehicles

Our first trailer. It's a 14 ft Fleetwing. I don't know when it was manufactured, we bought it used in 1969. It had a front dinette, rear gaucho, two canvas bunks over the dinette and gaucho, a side kitchen with sink, two burner stove and icebox, and a closet on the other side, next to the door, that was just big enough to hold a porta-potti. Sorry the photo is so small. It was taken by a friend, and she gave us a small (about 2" x 2") copy. It got badly scratched over the years. We're packing the 'Cat and will be pulling out in the morning - heading to Florida. When we get back, I'll try to remember to go through our old photos to find pics of our Bee-Line and one or both of our Prowlers.
This little Fleetwing started rolling down a hill with Tater and daughter in it. Fortunately, there was a tree a few feet behind it..... our daughter and I were okay, the trailer didn't have much damage, just a crease in the back - and Scruffy still has nightmares. Thank heaven for the tree.

Re: Old Campers and tow vehicles
There is a more recent photo of me in the forum. I think it is in Trip Reports.
When the picture of the Fleetwing was taken, we were camping with friends in Land-Between-the-Lakes, Kentucky. The truck camper belonged to one of the friends, and the other friends were camping in a Scotty. Yes, they look a lot alike, probably because of the color. The Scotty had a little bit of a shape (kind of a step) in the roofline at the front, where ours was curved.

Re: Old Campers and tow vehicles
We don't have access to our pre-digital pix cause we're on the road, but our first TV/5er combo was a 1990 shortbed Dodge Dakota (electric blue w/ red pin stripes) and an 18.5' Sunline gooseneck 5er. Had the fold down ball mounted in the bed of the Dakota and it worked great. The Dakoata was powered by the old, reliable 359CID gasser and the Dodge 3spd auto tranny with OD. Boy was that truck quick.
If this stream is still alive when we get home in October, I'll post pix of that bad boy lashup.

Re: Old Campers and tow vehicles
Here is our other camper, yes we have two, it is a 2000 Aliner. The Aliner is a hard side popup, there is more room inside then it looks. We use it depending on what we are going to use as a tow vehicle. I did make the comment to my wife, now that we have the largest camper and truck we have ever owned, how come there is just the two of use using it. When we were a family of 5 traveling we had much smaller rigs, oh well we made it and the kids loved camping.
