Yellowstone Roads ?
Does anyone know if the road from Madison to Norris will be open this summer? Looks like the only power in the park is going to be generators, with Fishing Bridges electric down. We have stayed in West Yellowstone before, but its a long drive to the upper part of the park with Norris closed.

That's a good question. I don't know if they completed that project last fall or not. It will probably still be a couple of months before they post the road closures in Yellowstone for 2010.

We still plan on going to Yellowstone, always like to do that just before the campgrounds close, great time to be out there. This maybe my excuses to buy a generator.

Yellowstone is a great reason to buy a generator. The last time we were the park we stayed at the Madison campground. I chained up the Honda generator to the Wildcat and ran it during the day to charge up the battery. At night we ran the furnace with the battery. The rangers were very strict about observing quiet hours.
Yellowstone is my favorite place to visit, I wish I didn't live so far from the park.

We were at Fishing Bridge last Sept 20th to the 26th ( campground closed Sunday the 26th. Richard I know what you mean about distance, we live ion NorthEast Iowa, but I know we will be going again this year. Late in the season the wildlife are down. We spend most of our time in what I call the upper or north end.

Call me crazy but reading another thread about having a get-together of Wildcaters gave me an idea.[img]
[/img]
Can we pull off a get together at Grand teton National Park and/or Yellowstone? I'm willing to do the legwork if there is enough interest. If we want to stay in Cody and day trip into the park, I can get some sweet deals. Just a thought......

Keith.......
What a great idea, day trips into the park, and you should plan a trip to the Cody Museum as well. For those who havent been there, they have an absolutey great gun collection!
Will have to look at any proposed dates of course, but for planning you could tentively count us in!
Thanks
Mike

Wyoming is a good choice. We spend a lot of our summer up there. The Big Horns, Wind Rivers, Tetons and Bear Tooth mountains offer some of the most scenic areas in the USA. Cody, Buffalo, Sheridan, Jackson and Lander are great places to stay with many attractions nearby. We always enjoy Wyoming and all it has to offer.

Count us in! We'd love to meet some of you fellow RVers.

When you go to Old Faithful take some time to go inside the lobby of the Old Faithful Inn. The lobby is incredible, the fireplace alone is worth seeing. Then walk over to the visitors center and pick up an Old Faithful Area Trail Guide. Walk the trail at least as far as Morning Glory Pool, on the way you will see a large variety of thermal features. We were lucky enough one year to see and hear Beehive geyser erupt.
Be sure to visit the Grand Canyon area of the Yellowstone River to see Lower Falls, a must see in my opinion. We always visit in the morning on a sunny day because the falls produce a beautiful rainbow in the mist at the bottom of the falls. While in the area drive to the Upper Falls. It is just a short hike to stand right at the edge at the top of the Upper Falls.
If you plan to do some animal viewing, be sure to go early in the morning when the animals are the most active. Lamar Valley and Hayden Valley are excellent places to view wildlife. You’ll have to have some luck to see the Wolves, Grizzly Bears, and Black Bears, but Pronghorn, Mule Deer, Moose, Coyote, Bison, Bighorn Sheep, and Elk are easy to find.
Yellowstone is huge! It is larger in land mass than Rhode Island and Delaware combined. Don’t be in a rush to see everything in the park, so relax and take your time driving and be safe. In most of the park, the roads are two lanes and if there is a bear or other interesting animal near the road it will create a traffic jam as people stop to look and take pictures. Also at times the Buffalo will walk down the middle of the road and this too will create a huge animal jam until they decide to move off to the side of the road. I always enjoy watching a herd of Buffalo cross the road, they seem to put out road guards.
Do a lot of research on Yellowstone before you go so that you have an idea to what you want to see and do. There’s tons of info on the Internet about the park.
Also, keep in mind that Grand Teton National Park is just 10 miles south of Yellowstone and the entrance fee you paid to get into Yellowstone will get you into the Tetons. At least it did the last time we were there. The alpine views of the Tetons are spectacular as you can see in Keithbennet's video.
One more thing, Yellowstone is at altitude so don’t try to do any strenuous hikes the first day you’re there. Give yourself a day to adjust to the altitude and drink plenty of water.

Re: Yellowstone Roads ?
I would love to go back to Yellowstone. I would rather stay at one of the camgrounds in Yellowstone since it is so big. Last time we stayed in Yellowstone, we put on 1,000 miles on the truck just in the park itself during the week and a half we were there.

Re: Yellowstone Roads ?
Yellowstone is one of the greatest places. We were there last June and got snow and plenty of hail. June is a great time to go because it is just starting to warm up. We got this shot when we were there during the winter.

We never get tired of the place. We are probably going to head back again this summer after we return home from Alaska.

We should take delivery of our new 28RKSB in mid May, and will be heading to Yellowstone on June 7th for 2 weeks, we've been there 4 times now and can't get enough of it, we will stay in a Shoshoni National forest campground midway between Cody and Yellowstone East entrance. Anyone else want to meet up let me know and will try to rendevous.
