Replaced the foam in cushions

Post by f150k on 1/11/2010, 3:26 pm

I have just finished replacing the foam in our cushions. I used extra firm foam.

First remove the old foam from the cushion

Next mark the new foam using the old foam as a pattern.

Cut the foam with an electric knife.

Next place a light weight bag over the foam. ( This makes it easier to put the foam back inside the cushion )

Insert foam into cushion cover

Remove plastic bag. ( Reach inside the cushion cover and work off the plastic bag. )

Zip up the cover and your done.

You can check out my gallery for larger photos on replacing the foam
Good luck

where did you get your foam from, I was just looking at a couple different places online to get some foam precut for my couch in the house. Its a feather cushion couch that my wife paid a fortune for new a few years ago, and I think she's sat on it maybe twice, I'm the only one that sits on it because its softer than the floor, but totally S<<<s. Well the dog likes it also.
I want to make it firm like the one sat that she made me give away to buy the expensive junk one.

I got our foam from a local upholstery shop. He had some samples, so I could tell what I was looking for. It was not cheap but it feels so much better.

I'm looking at these two places

buyfoam.com

foamreplacement.com

You just type in your measurements in inches on the shape you want and it gives you a price and a choice of foam

Phillip, I looked at both sites, on buyfoam.com I priced the extra firm foam and it was a very good price, less than what I paid. On foamreplacement.com I think Lux Foam High Quality would be the same or close to what I got. I did not find a price to compare at their site. I wanted to be able to try the foam, so I knew what I was getting. Maybe you could call and ask for a sample and than compare with what you have.

Foam

Post by mbatte on 1/20/2010, 10:41 am

I replaced my dinette foam, last week. Had the foam cut, and installed for less than $100. They did it, while I watched. Foam Brothers, Houston, TX
What a difference!!!! They said my old foam was a poor quality, But you know that, already!

We replaced our foam seats with upgraded foam last year. Big difference!! Foam was purchased at JoAnn Fabrics with a 50% off coupon and the whole thing cost $50.
