How about all the members list 2 campgrounds less than 50 miles from their home that they would recommend to other site members if they were in your area.

There's only one campground I would recommend and feel comfortable that everyone (young, old, kids) would enjoy it and that's the Dam West campgound at Carlyle Lake in Illinois. It's a COE campground and even has some full-hookup sites.

Loyd Park -
Our favorite local campground is Loyd Park in Grand Prairie, TX. It is a municipal park that has water and electric hookups and long paved pads. They have a beach and some playgrounds. They have group camping areas and cabins. Fishing and boating are the big things there. We just go there to relax. We'll stay two or three nights, mid-week, and just watch the world go by. In the mid-week we can get a waterfront campsite. This place gets hopping on weekends when it is almost always filled with locals. We don't go there then - just too hectic. We figure we can camp during the weekdays and the people who work and have kids in school can have the place on weekends. They take reservations two weeks in advance. It's on Hwy 360 about 5-6 miles south of I-20. Turn east off of 360 at Ragland Road.

When we moved back to Texas in 2007, we sold our house in Tulsa, OK so quickly (took 2 days on the market), we hadn't found a house in Texas. So we stayed six weeks in Treetops RV Park in Arlington, TX. This is a private campground. They have a pool and playground. Many of the residents are permanent. They have full hook-ups and some pull-thru sites. All of the sites are gravel. This would be good for someone passing through as it is very close to I-20, but far enough away so there isn't any highway noise. Turn north off of I-20 on Cooper then turn west on Arbrook - it's just a couple blocks west of Cooper.

Henderson State Park, Destin, FL and Fort Pickens, Pensacola Beach, FL. Both parks are the Gulf of Mexico for great swimming and fishing. Sugar white sand blue/green water and lots to see at Ft Pickens NP and lots of history. Destin is has lots more to offer for the kids and lots of tourist in the summer.

I don't have any parks that I would recommend that are closer than 50 miles from the house but would recommend a couple in Branson which is about 65 miles away. There's nothing to do where I live anyway. Well, maybe some of you older ones would appreciate the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum.

In Branson my first pick would be Acorn Acres. It's actually a few miles outside of Branson but close to Silver Dollar City.

My second choice would be Americas Best Campground.

We've stayed at a couple others and depending on what you want to be close to is the park you should chose. Getting around Branson in the summer is hectic unless your familiar with the backroads.

Roubidous RV Park

I haven't stayed there because its only 5 miles from the house, but it is a fairly new park built about 5 years with spacious paved pull throughs and lots of open area. Should be quiet also since they put the highway bypass in around Gering, although it probably wasn't bad before as its elevation is above the highway and in a 45 mph zone. Park is city owned and maintained. Seems to stay 50-75% occuppied during season except for a few busy weekends.

Close and has a view of the Scottsbluff National Monument and close to public golf courses, a farm and ranch museum (very cool) and other amenities.

There is one that is head and shoulders above all the rest. It is in Red Bluff, 25 miles south of Redding.

www.durangorvresorts.com

This
is immaculate, with huge level spacious sites, some overlooking the
river, concrete pads, full hookups, swimming pool, spa, putting course,
club house, pet friendly, this RV park has it all. It is by far the
nicest RV park that we have ever seen. Pictures are worth a thousand
words, so click on the above to see all the amenities.
With a side
bonus of being right next door to the best restaurant in the north
state, Shari's. See Lee the manager at Shari's and he will make your
dining a very pleasant one. We drive the 25 miles to eat there, because
it is by far the most friendly, great tasty food, and very nice
atmosphere.
We were given a tour of Durango RV Resort by Manager Bob Dougherty, and again we were made to feel very welcome and special.
If
you come up or down I-5 and go through Red Bluff California, and do not
stay at their resort and eat at Shari's, then you have missed a true
experiance.
I am giving this RV Park a ten star rating on a one to five scale.

It's really hard to do the 50 mile thing since we live in southern NH and I don't think there are any really good CGs in our area. However, there are some really nice ones in the lakes region and in the White Mountains. Twin Mountain, Franklin, Ashland and Meredith come to mind.
