A second battery

Post by kwf904 on 1/8/2010, 3:58 am

First topic message reminder :

I don't do much dry camping, maybe once or twice a year. I really don't want to add a second battery box and wire two together in parallel. My thought is to pick up another 12volt and just replace it when the first one runs down. my question is, is there any benefit to having the two wired together other than convenience of not having to swap them out?
Thanks
Jim

I also had previously changed out all of my lighting to LED. That was one of the best improvements that I did.

That is my next project. cheers

Working on that slowly. Vanity lights are 25 a piece. Need 3. Kind of pricey. Probably will not change out fluorescents.

LED lighting has come a long way from the unnatural looking light. But so powerful expensive yet. You can buy cheap LED lights and get unnatural light but who wants that?! I found the perfect lights with good natural type lighting but 50 some bucks each. They're used on high end RV's. Luckly I don't do much battery only camping so I do ok with the factory lights.

I'm running four grp 27 batteries - Cheaper than LED lights and can be used for more than just lights. :)

I agree with this statement. Four batteries last a long time. Coupled with a solar charging system, you can camp for weeks. The only thing you need to replenish is fresh water and propane every week or so.

I'm mostly a weekender, so 4 batteries are good for the short stays. Haven't tried it while having to run the heater with 4 batteries yet, and with 2 I could get away with 2 nights if I was careful. Propane seems to last a while, and they are in nice portable containers you can take out and refill. I also have 4 7 Gallon water jugs i bring along full for the first refill, and I replumbed my water pump to also pump water from a white water hose into the tank. Can't wait to boondock more this year!

May seem funny but we use mostly the D Cell powered lanterns we bought from COSTCO. I can get pictures when I get home if U all want.

Talking about lights I was wondering if anybody has found an LED replacement for the stove hood light?
