30 AMP power cord

Post by oldelmer1 on 1/7/2010, 7:39 am

I was looking at my plug today and thought I would replace it cause it has some burn marks on it and the head is loose on the cable.

Has anyone replaced theirs? Looking online at some of the pictures, some replacement heads are really cheap looking.

Anyone have a suggestion for a good quality replacement?

Thanks....

I replaced mine when I went to the Marinco detachable set up, and for the male end I used a rather "cheesy looking" one from Camco that I purchased at a local dealer, yellow in color, with a handle for easy grip. I recently made up a shorter version of the same cord, and used the same male end. Like I said, looks cheesy and cheap, but easy to install and works great.

Tom,

If you haven't transitioned to the Marinco setup, you might consider doing it. I've found that setting up is much easier when all I have to do is remove the coiled up 30' cord from the basement, attach it to the Cat and then plug into the site's power pole. Compared to pulling the black cord out of the side of the Cat and having it snag every two or three feet the Marinco setup is a breeze.

It's really an easy install too.

I also think that the cord that comes with the kit is much more well made than the one that comes installed on the Cat. I've used mine for 4 seasons now and there is no sign of wear at either end.

JMHO .....

Personally to me, I like having the cord in the Cat. I don't like the thought of having to deal with the extra cord every time we set-up or pack-up.

Like schrwang, I really like the detachable setup. But, like I posted previously, I made up a short version (about 12 feet or so) that is really handy when I can get close to the power pedestal.

Mike, I did install the Marinco kit a while ago, but I didnt get the cable, I just cut back my original cable and added the twist on end to it. But now looking at the 3 prong plug, it looks a little burned/corroded.

EZRIDER6298, would you recommend this Camco plug?

Yes---like I posted, I have two of 'em in use with no problems.

Tom,
That sounds like the plug I installed . It keeps some park pedestal lids from closing when plugged in but I'm happy with it.Its easy to plug and unplug. I also did the Marinco conversion and am glad I did. Just my two cents worth...

Replaced my plug today, got one from Home Depot for $8.99. Notice the corrosion on the old one.
