Heater Fan not coming on

Post by JKFOURBOYS on 1/7/2010, 3:12 am

From Arkansas, hello all,

Last evening I decided to turn the heat on in our 32QBH. The last time we had it out was mid November. I've winterized it by blowing out the water lines. The weather forecast is for unusual cold weather and I wanted to run a little heat to make sure pipes are ok.

The furnace ignited fine, but the automatic fan would not come on. To make sure the fan worked, I turned it to the on position and it came on fine. Please tell me this is an easy do-it-yourself fix and not a "take it to the dealer" expensive fix.

The heater does not use the air conditioner vents in the ceiling, it uses the floor registers and it's own fan. The fan option on the thermostat is for the ceiling vents. Did you feel over the floor registers to see if air was coming out?

What part of AR are you in? Nice to see another local!!

I know the furnace is igniting and I can feel heat coming from the vents in the floor. The heater fan would not come on, even after several minutes.

We are in LR.

If you could feel heat from the floor vents, what makes you think the heater fan is not working? It sounds like its working just fine.

The heater should be located below the refrigerator, which is where the fan unit is located also.

Are you waiting for a fan to come on at the A/C unit?

I'm pretty sure if the heater ignites, the fan is working.

I think there is a safeguard built in that the heater won't ignite if the fan doesn't work to keep from overheating.

The "fan" button that you set to manual is for the A/C, which has nothing to do with heating.

If you can feel heat coming from the floor registers, all is working properly.

When the heater is turned on, the fan should come on first and blow cold air through the floor registers. About a minute after the fan starts, you should hear the igniter light the burner.

I don't know about every one else, but the motor/fan unit on my furnace is a noisy little bugger. I know that the fan is working because of the noise that it makes. I think that most of us have had the same experience to one degree or another.

The guys are right though. If the fan isn't working, I don't believe that the furnace will ignite. The fan runs for a few minutes both before and after the furnace cycles through the temp range set on the thermostat.
