Wildcat 28RK Insulation

Post by Dodge3500 on 1/6/2010, 6:19 pm

Hello everyone. I have a 2009 Wildcat 28RK. I was looking under the front bedroom area and was wondering if the elevated area under the bed is insulated?. I cannot see up under the bed area due to an enclosed underside. All I can see is the black plastic material that appears to cover the plywood. The floor above the storage area is insulated with a foam sandwich. I was wondering if other wildcat or 5th wheel owners have the same situation? The reason I am asking is when the trailer sits outside, but under a canopy, for any longer than a week when I raise the front of the trailer I get about a cup or so of water coming out around the hitch opening. It appears to be a condensation problem not a rain problem. Thanks for any help.

Its not really clear to me exactly where the water is coming out of. Is is coming from the area where the pin box meets up with the outside skin of the trailer? Or is it coming from the backside of the pin box where people usually hang the trailer electrical cord?
Do you have the stock pinbox or did you upgrade it?

Mine sits outside and I have never noticed any water in the pinbox. But now that you mentioned it I will check mine.

Are you talking about the area over the bed of the truck? That thing can't handle much water on it, it is just fiber board type stuff on the inside. Mine is inside all the time and it never gets water coming out around the pin box. I have twice had water come out further back on that sheet by one of the support screws, but that was when it sat outside and I had bad caulking along the outer edge.

Mine sits outside all the time, and I've never had any water leak out of there. We park our motorcycles under there when it rains and have never had an issue.

The area where the water is coming out is the opening in the fiberglass around the pin box. The underside is enclosed except for the opening. When I raise the trailer water will run out of the front corner of the opening. I have checked all of the caulking on the roof, around the front cap and the windows. I am pretty sure it is not a leak from the outside. The reason I believe it is a condensation buildup is because I have only noticed it when it has sat in front of our house for a week or two and we were inside with the heat on. If there are air leaks between the inside bedroom area and the underside area condensation could develop in this area. It doesn't sound like anyone has had an issue with this. That's why I was wondering if my upper floor area under the bed had been insulated. I can see the floor area in the bathroom and it is an insulated sandwich but I did not see an easy way to check the area under the bed. It has the factory trail air pin box.

By the way Welcome!!!

I have seen mine with that fiberglass sheet off. It looked just like the bottom of the slide and there was also some pink insulation hap hazardley thrown about. Are you sure there are no neighborhood kids putting water in there for you? Maybe a "Water" snake!! In all seriousness, how much water are you talking about?

No kids putting water in. I live on property so no kids around. Does anyone no if the elevated area where the bed is located is made of the same type of foam sandwich as the area right above the storage compartment? As far as amount of water it is approx. 1 cup.

If it were me I would loosen one side of the panel so you can see up inside and have someone run water over the front and see if you see any water dripping, or if you don't see anything at that time keep checking on it for awhile to make sureyou don't have any leaks. If nothing is found then you can be pretty sure it is condensation. Just my 2 cents.
