Pecan Run San Marcos, TX

Post by robertz675 on 12/22/2009, 5:20 am

We left FL Thursday night with some showers. We stopped on I-10 in a rest area for the night to get some sleep. The big storm came through the night. To bad I missed it, I was sound asleep. We were heading west on I-10 when an engine warning light came on and announced "Reduced Engine Power" and the rpm's started to go down. After what seemed like hours the power was back to normal. It did it again and we decided to find a dealer. Garmin said the closest dealer was 24 miles away in AL. So off we went to Geneva, AL. After close to an hour we got there only to find out that the dealer had gone out of business. Another hour to get back to I-10.

Drove further and found a dealer about 1/2 mile off of the interstate in Crestview FL. Rolled in there at about 2:00 on a Friday afternoon. They told us that they would look at it in 15 minutes. The mechanic came out with his tools in the rain to work on it. It turned out that I had a ree flow air filter and it was tripping the sensors and the computer. "A new air filter should do it" he said. The problem was that they had just used there last one and didn't have any more in the stockroom. "No problem" he said as he grabbed a set of keys and his tools. There was a brand new duelly sitting on the front of the lot, now without an air filter. They explained that the computer is sensitive to the air flow and is made for OEM filters only. True or not, but we don't have a problem.

On our way after they gave us some beautiful calendars, ball caps and hot coffee. Our kudos to Award Chevrolet, Crestview, FL. We were back on the rode with another loss of two hours.

We arrived here at Pecan Run on Saturday afternoon. It is situated on the San Marcos River. The campground is very well kept and quiet. Now I can see why it is almost at capacity. It is situated about 2 miles from I-35 and San Marcos. Close enough to everything but far enough away. From here we can go to my brothers house in Kyle and bother him.

The trip has been great. Merry Christmas to all.
